We are looking to hire an Assistant Vice-President, Technology Strategy & Governance to joing our Great-West Life Co & Canada Technology team.

Reporting to the Vice-President, Global Technology Strategy & Governance,
this role is accountable for implementing strategic management and governance processes that:
- Improves Decision Making: Strategic decision support to SVP, Transformation and the CIO as well as other leaders in the Technology leadership team to maximize value delivered, enabled by greater visibility and strategic alignment
- Optimizes Value: value delivered is measured and managed through diligent and regular analysis against all technology metrics including risk, security and operational metrics, managing technology as a business with improvement opportunities identified and incorporated into execution plans
- Responsible for end-to-end ownership of research, creation and socialization of presentation materials to support senior executive discussions at various forums and including but not limited to audiences such as the Board, Regulators and Senior Management
- Oversee the development, implementation, and issuance of timely and complete information/reports/scorecards that provide evidence whether commitments are being fulfilled and objectives are being met.
Accountable to the CIO for end to end ownership of regulatory issue / audit / other risk dimension reporting to audiences that include Senior Management team, Board and Regulators.
- Support ad hoc analysis or business case inputs of new programs as needed to achieve desired outcomes and objectives
As the trusted technology delivery partner of Great West Life’s and Canada Life’s Senior Technology Leaders, the AVP will ensure the activities are planned, budgeted, executed in ways that meet the highest standards of governance and execution. This leader will be the delivery expertise working across multiple technology portfolio and product teams, interfacing different planning, implementation, and release experts to ensure:
- Delivery risks and dependencies are identified and mitigated
- Efficient and quality delivery
- Efficient overall resource utilization
- Lean delivery methodologies
- Business agility in the technology teams
- Funding allocation management
Responsibilities:
- Facilitates proper prioritization, issue escalation and stakeholder decision making, through leadership of the Steering Committee(s).
- Provides people/resource management to the overall function
- Drive a high-performance culture for the team and influence this culture within Canada technology as a senior leader in the organization
- Drive collaboration across our portfolio and product technology teams to drive solutions development in alignment with the Lifeco & Canada Technology Strategy & Roadmap.
- Collaboratively working with Portfolio Leaders from our various technology teams to provide greater efficiency in our overall technology strategy
- Work closely with various strategy teams to ensure we are delivering the right things in the right order
- Define and develop measurement teams to ensure active metrics are used to track and predict our initiatives’ success.
Experience Required:
- 10+ years’ experience in business technology to support technology journey, business operation and data insights
- Experience working in a large, complex enterprise organization, preferably in the Insurance or Financial Services industry
- Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering degree; or equivalent work experience
- Specialized Knowledge/Experience with cloud, modern architectures, Dev Ops, and sound financial knowledge and knows how to apply to a Technology area
- Demonstrated a high level of innovation, the ability to utilize and implement best practices,
as well as creating new ways of working, rolling out and implementation across a group
- An agile mindset that is focused on delighting our customers, advisors, and shareholders
- Be a “translator” between business and technology, excellent understanding of product development lifecycle, and versed in agile delivery frameworks;
- Extremely detail-oriented, excellent understanding of how technology products are delivered and able to anticipate future roadblocks and help mitigate delivery risks.
- Demonstrated ability to work with senior leadership and other internal/external stakeholders on the development and delivery of large-scale technical projects and transformation work, building plans and managing progress reporting which provide visibility of work in progress
- Track record of collaboration and influence when working in cross-functional teams
- Applies a structured process to reporting to ensure consistent measurement across different technology initiatives
- Product experience on intake and adoption patterns
- Demonstrated ability to work through change management as rolling out new ways of working
- Finding the right balance between building relationships and driving necessary change
- Due to high regulations in our industry, the individual must be able to navigate these appropriate and collaborate and work with the appropriate experts in these areas
- Responsible for attracting, retaining and developing employees. Will need to be able to understand the requirements and translate that into the appropriate resources required
