Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination of multiple Works Programs (i.e. winter works, vacuum leaf collection, driveway windrow program, clothing supply and ordering, etc.).
- Lead the Annual Sidewalk Inspection Program.
- Assist Supervisory staff with reports, service requests, process and document development.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Council approved service levels and industry best practices, and in compliance with City policies/procedures and Provincial/Federal legislation.
- Provide functional guidance, mentoring, coaching and training to full time and temporary/seasonal staff.
- Assist in winter on-call supervision/monitoring of contracted maintenance programs.
- Lead maintenance activities and resources including prioritizing, organizing, scheduling, assigning and monitoring.
- Prepare detailed activity documentation for staff/equipment time and materials used.
- Respond within service levels to service requests from residents, mayor, councillors, senior management, internal departments and external agencies.
- Ensure compliance by staff with all occupational health and safety standards and procedures including scheduling of appropriate training.
- Assist in development and presentation of standard operating procedures, “tailgate/tool box” topics, winter staff training and contractor orientations.
- Perform site inspections, and investigate service requests, incidents/accidents, and assist/prepare reports and responses on same.
- Respond to requests for documentation for examination for discovery cases and participate as required.
- Provide physical and handling skills as required in maintenance of infrastructure.
- Will be required to work a variety of hours/shifts.
- Will be required to work at all Works Yards, on a rotational basis,
and based on business needs.
- Assigned rotational on call basis year round.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in civil engineering, business administration or related field.
- Ability to obtain Certified Engineering Technician (C.Tech.) designation with Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) within first 12 months of employment.
- Ability to obtain Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation with Association of Ontario Road Supervisors within first 12 months of employment.
- Minimum three year’s municipal experience in engineering, construction or operations.
- Candidates not meeting some or all of the above criteria may be considered based on a reasonable equivalent and acceptable combination of related municipal experience and education but must be committed to pursuing and achieving required designations in agreed timeline.
- Demonstrated competency in leadership, supervision, mentoring, coaching, training, communication, accountability, diplomacy, customer service, continuous improvement and City’s core values – Trust, Quality and Excellence.
- Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office programs and other City applications.
- Demonstrated understanding and execution of collective agreement, City policies/agreements and Provincial/Federal legislation.
- Demonstrated competency in working in a team environment, and with internal and external stake holders.
- Demonstrated competency in pro-active approaches,
LEAN process improvements, multi-dimensional thinking and problem solving, and multi-tasking.
- Must have valid Province of Ontario driver’s license in good standing and ability to use City/personal vehicle.
