Deep Sky is the world’s first gigaton-scale carbon removal project developer. As a commercial venture, we build carbon removal infrastructure projects and sell carbon credits to remove billions of tons of CO2 from the Earth’s atmosphere. Are you a skilled legal professional with a sharp commercial mind and a passion for solving complex challenges? Deep Sky is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our fast-growing company.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, excels at balancing fine details with big-picture business perspectives, and has experience in project development,
construction, procurement, or carbon credit purchase agreements.
Reporting directly to our VP Legal, you will play a key role in navigating the legal landscape of project development and construction while contributing to the seamless execution of our company’s goals.
Key Responsibilities // Responsabilités Clés
- Legal Advisory: Act as a trusted legal advisor to business leaders, providing strategic insights on project development, construction, procurement, and carbon credit purchase agreements. Lead contract negotiations and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
- Contract Negotiation and Management: Draft, review, and finalize high-value agreements negotiated in the context of project development and carbon credit purchase agreements. Proactively identify and mitigate risks to protect the company’s commercial interests.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business leaders, project managers, procurement teams, and external vendors to align legal strategies with business objectives.
Provide training and guidance on legal and compliance matters to empower internal teams. Foster strong working relationships with external counsel, ensuring efficient and effective legal support.
- Risk Management: Develop policies and frameworks to manage legal and commercial risks effectively. Deliver actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.
- Legal Process Development and Strategy: Design, implement, and streamline legal processes to enhance efficiency and consistency across the organization. Collaborate with business leaders to develop and execute the company’s overarching legal strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and growth plans.
What We’re Looking For // Ce que nous recherchons
- Education: Law degree (LL.B or J.D.) and has been a member in good standing of a law society for 5 to 10 years.
- Expertise:
Demonstrated experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing construction agreements, project development contracts, procurement agreements, or carbon credit purchase agreements. Familiarity with the energy, infrastructure, or technology sectors is a plus.
- Skills: Exceptional ability to draft, negotiate, and communicate complex agreements. A solid understanding of contract law and regulatory compliance.
- Mindset: Strategic thinker who can manage details while maintaining a broad perspective.
- Collaborative Approach: Eager to work across teams, build relationships, and contribute in a fast-paced environment.
