Description

We are seeking a caring Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), ideally with experience in the not-for-profit sector to work with our amazing not-for-profit clients.

Together with our talented and supportive team, you will be providing our not-for-profit clients with essential financial accounting support and strategic insights to help them thrive and build better operational excellence.

You will be joining a team of like-minded professionals at CHARITYacCOUNTS! where for over two decades we have been committed to delivering high-quality managed accounting and reporting services to Not-for-Profit organizations, charities, and foundations.

Please note that this role is PRIMARILY REMOTE but will require a visit to client offices once weekly in downtown Toronto.

About the Role:

As a Controller at CHARITYacCOUNTS! you will be leveraging your exceptional finance, accounting,



and communication skills to guide and support a diverse not-for-profit client base. You will meet with clients to review reporting, provide solutions to operational challenges, and help them make sound organizational decisions to support their success. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to enhance the skill set of other professionals on your team, to support and exceed client expectations.

The Controller will provide direct support to Senior Controllers on larger, more complex client engagements. The Controller will also manage smaller client engagements on their own.

Some activities that you could be engaged in include:

- Lead review meetings of financial statements and assist with cash flow planning and budgeting to enhance the financial acumen of clients.





- Support year-end reviews or audits of clients while acquiring needed documents and information from the client and service providers.

- Account analysis, reconciliation, and identification of any monthly reporting deficiencies, leading corrective action as needed. Identify and implement process improvements to streamline the finance & accounting functions of the clients you serve.

- Contribute to discussions surrounding technical accounting to determine practical methods that capture transactions accurately in financial statements.

- Guide team members to ensure accuracy in the processing of financial transactions (accounts payable, revenues, payroll, etc.)

- Prepare financial statements and reports for clients, monitoring meaningful financial insights and organizational performance.

- Ensure seamless onboarding of new clients and establish monthly reporting processes that yield high-quality work.





- Contribute to discussions surrounding technical accounting to determine practical methods that capture transactions accurately in financial statements.

- Support system transition from legacy accounting system to cloud based accounting software.

What you bring to the role:

- Accounting designation – Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA/CA from CPA Canada)

- 3+ years of post-qualification experience in a Finance/Accounting role

- Passion for and experience working with a not-for-profit organization, charity or foundation.

- Experience in a professional services firm as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager would be a strong asset.

- Strong experience with account analysis and reconciliation





- Technically versed in cloud-based accounting software systems (such as QuickBooks Online) or a commitment to training.

- Interest in an opportunity to grow your career and professional growth towards managing larger, more complex clients on your own, as well as overseeing staff.
