Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Transmission Line Engineer in Training. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Transmission Lines, this position is located in our Calgary, AB office or any of the following locations: Vancouver, BC, Edmonton, AB, Saskatoon, SK, Oakville, ON or St Johns, NL. Responsibilities
- Supporting engineering projects by creating detailed scopes and estimates, performing engineering calculations, developing detailed design drawings and modeling using the highly specialized, custom-purpose software: PLS-CADD.
- Designing structures for high voltage transmission lines using PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER..
- Engineering of transmission line projects from ‘definition phase’ through the ‘implementation phase”, to the ‘in service phase’ for up to 500 kV transmission lines..
- Preparing material take-off, specifications and requisitions and coordinating with the Procurement Group For materials procurement.
- Prepare staged design packages for clients in accordance with industry and clients’ standards and maintaining detailed documentation of designs.
Supporting and coordinating staged installation and commissioning with the utility and subcontractors.
- Providing construction support and overall project engineering coordination and responding to information requests from site.
- Completing project record documentation including as-builts, calculations and return of data to the client.
- Maintaining and enhancing relationships with internal groups and external contractors and clients.
- Traveling and visiting project sites throughout project definition and execution.
Qualifications
- Transmission, Electrical, Civil or Structural Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Professional Engineering Designation or eligibility for registration with APEGA or similar.
- 0-3 years of transmission line engineering experience
- Proven experience within a Transmission Utility or EPC organization designing transmission lines utilizing PLS–CADD/PLS-TOWER/PLS-POLE is required.
- Knowledge of electrical or structural aspects of transmission lines is an asset.
- Knowledge of underground cable transmission line design is an asset.
- Knowledge of transmission materials such as structures, conductors/OHSW, OPGW/ADSS, insulators, hardware accessories and fittings is an asset.
- Direct experience on the safety aspects of the design of high voltage transmission lines.
- Utility-specific knowledge of standards and safety requirements.
- Construction support experience for Transmission projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
