What you’ll do
Reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities and Productivity and working as part of a cross-functional team, the IT Support and Systems Administrator will provide all levels of information technology management for the organization. The IT Support and Systems Administrator will tackle a diverse range of responsibilities from executing day-to-day technical tasks to supporting strategic projects and management duties. This role needs to build and shape the foundation of the IT functions for future growth and development while doing the day-to-day hands-on tasks including providing internal customer support.
This includes creating and maintaining exceptional IT security mechanisms and ensuring that the organization has adequate equipment to maintain a functional office space and that all staff have the appropriate equipment to perform their respective functions efficiently and effectively.
This includes:
- Overseeing daily IT operations, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of hardware and software systems
- Developing, updating, and documenting IT policies and procedures to establish best practices
- Collaborating with stakeholders to identify technology needs and solutions
- Strategic planning and implementation of critical IT infrastructure including asset management, risk management, disaster recovery management, and privacy management
- Work with the Procurement Manager and the accounting team to procure all IT related equipment including but not limited to computer, laptops, peripherals, phones
- Work with the People and Culture team and managers to dispense equipment to employees as required
- Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (ex. routers, printers, pdf functions) for employees and contractors
- Train employees on usage of the hardware and software systems to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure and resources
- Provide orientation, guidance, and recommendations to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment as required
- Verify and validate that all computers and computer hardware (ex. HDD, mouses, keyboards) function properly prior to and after release
- Install, configure,
and maintain computer software and licensing thereof
- Setup and maintain an identity and access software platform for license management
- Develop and maintain local networks to optimize performance
- Organize and schedule IT upgrades and maintenance while minimizing distraction
- Prioritize and perform all levels of troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging) as quickly as possible
- Ensuring that the organization has adequate backups of data and equipment to ensure speedy recovery
- Contacting external support channels to efficiently fix IT infrastructure issues
- Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedules
- Verify that networks have adequate security and privacy systems in place
- Assist with the setup, development,
implementation and/or maintenance of: SOC2 (Service Organizational Control), HIPAA, PIPEDA. Additionally, assist with audit preparation, review, mitigation, remediation, and resolutions
- Maintain a clean, and safe working environment
- Performing duties in a manner that is consistent with and committed to upholding the requirements of the quality management system
Additionally, due to the ever-changing and sometimes chaotic environment of an early-stage high-tech company, the IT Support and Systems Administrator may assume additional responsibilities, as required.
What you’ll bring
- Diploma or a degree in a Computer Science or relevant field
- 5+ years of progressive IT support and systems administration experience in a fast-paced office environment
- 2+ years of IT infrastructure experience
- 1+ year in a supervisory role is strong asset
- Solid expertise in MS Office 365 and Atlassian Suite including but not limited to user management, licensing, and permissions.
- Proven record of exceptional planning, implementing, and management of IT infrastructure including asset management, risk management, disaster recovery management, privacy management, cloud security, network security, privacy security, breach security, data protection, data integrity, and data recovery
- Solid understanding of auditing all levels of IT security
- Understanding of HIPAA, PIPEDA, and PHI requirements and/or experience with SOC2 or similar compliance frameworks is considered an asset
- Extensive experience with setting up and managing SSO and Identity & Access Management tools and software (i.e., OKTA – OKTA experience considered an asset)
- Proven experience and comfortable with fulfilling low-level and high-level IT functions within an organization
- Understanding of and/or experience with policy creation, implementation, and use is considered an asset
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Microsoft Certified IT Professional, Microsoft Azure Certified, NIDS, NIPS, & HIPS Certifications are strong assets
- Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
- Exceptional knowledge working with Apple and PC systems
- Must have a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure, commit and meet tight timelines
The details
Employment status: Temporary (3 months) part-time
Schedule: 10-20 hours per week from Monday to Friday
Work location: Calgary, Alberta. Please note that this role is a hybrid position and occasionally required to work onsite at our Head Office located at Suite 205, 1240 – 20th Avenue S.E.
