With approximately 150 assets under management, 20M+ square feet of space, and another 20M+ square feet under development, across major markets. With a history spanning decades, and an employee base of hundreds across Canada,
they have been instrumental in shaping the Canadian Real Estate landscape.Senior Environmental ManagerOn behalf of our client, we are seeking a Senior Environmental Manager with a focus on environmental risk, reporting to the Head of Sustainability, to support the Environmental Risk and ESG functions. The ideal candidate would be responsible for environmental compliance across the company’s national portfolio of sites under development and construction. They will be work closely with the Investments, Construction & Development teams through assessing site risks and reporting on environmental conditions.The base salary is $120,000 to $145,000 plus short- and long-term bonuses, benefits, RRSP matching and pension contribution. Our client is an advocate for equity and diversity and recognizes the importance of leadership engagement within its framework.ResponsibilitiesOversee the environmental risk management division,
leading policy and procedure development.Collaborate with various internal departments to effectively address environmental risk and compliance issues.Partner with internal and external teams, consultants, and third parties to manage construction sites, with a focus on brownfield projects.Ensure external counsel and consultants meet environmental requirements logically and reasonably.Review and update the environmental reporting and management systems to manage risk and ensure compliance.Administer an environmental compliance database, identifying and reporting material risks and opportunities through annual audits.Enhance environmental compliance, cost management,
and regulatory relationships to ensure program effectiveness and regulatory adherence.Advise internal departments and collaborate with third-party consultants on environmental remediation activities.Investigate nonconformities and implement corrective and preventive actions for existing properties and development projects.Communicate regulatory requirements and changes to required teams, host trainings with internal teams, and report on action items to senior leadership.Qualifications8+ years of work experience in sustainability and/or ESG, with a focus on environmental risk. Experience working in both advisory and internal roles is required.University education in Environmental Sciences and/or a relevant Professional Designation.Experience in developing and/or implementing Environmental Management Systems.Experience in environmental assessments and auditing or an equivalent background.Knowledge of environmental statutes and regulations and the ability to review regulatory requirements and assess their applicability.Extensive experience with Phase I & II ESAs, remediation, risk assessments, hazmat and IAQ reports.Strong communication skills, with the ability to speak with senior leadership in a concise manner.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.Proven analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.Demonstrated experience in managing projects, teams, service delivery, timelines and budgets.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.Must be able to work well in a team environment.Ability to facilitate discussions with multiple parties and align on key decisions.By providing us with a copy of your resume and any subsequent personal information directly, you understand that it has been furnished with your consent for the purpose of possible disclosure to our client, who has agreed to comply with our Privacy Policy and Confidentiality Policy.
