Consider this unique opportunity to work closely with City of Edmonton Ward Anirniq Councillor Erin Rutherford. As the Senior Council Assistant, you will be part of a team working together to further the objectives of the office in an ever changing and fast-paced work environment.

This position is a highly complex support role, reporting directly to Councillor Rutherford. You will exercise considerable judgment and initiative ensuring the variety of demands that arise in the Councillor’s office are handled appropriately. Using your broad knowledge of how the City functions (policies, procedures, systems) you will:





- Respond to constituent and stakeholder telephone and email inquiries and concerns and either provide requested information, direct requests appropriately, or request information from senior management, follow-up and tracking of requests
- Coordinate the Councillor’s schedule including arranging meetings, appointments, and organizing community engagements/ward events
- Prepare and manage correspondence, briefings, speeches, newsletters, website blogs, social media posts, and other ward communications
- Review and follow up with media inquires
- Handle a variety of complex and politically sensitive issues that may arise
- Organize digital and paper documentation, procedures, trackers, databases, and other office information management systems
- Coordinate information flow and records management for the ward office, including processing FOIP requests
- Research, summarize, synthesize and prepare information to support Council business, constituent inquiries, and Councillor requests for information
- Liaise with City administration, community leagues, various levels of government and external organizations to gather and provide information representative of Councillor direction





Qualifications:

- Completed University degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in a relevant role. A post secondary diploma with equivalent experience will be considered

Assets:

- Access to reliable transportation throughout Ward Anirniq
- Familiarity with issues and local context within Ward Anirniq
- Detailed understanding of Edmonton’s municipal governance and related issues
- Proficiency in digital media content creation including but not limited to graphic design, photography, and videography

Skills required for success:

- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective office management and administration
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to deal with a diverse range of individuals




- Demonstrated ability and advanced use Google Workspace/Docs/Apps, social media, and other applications
- Exceptional ability to recognize politically sensitive issues and bringing matters of priority to the Councillor’s attention
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and contribute to a positive and respectful workplace
- Demonstrated ability to professionally interact and handle conflict utilizing effective listening skills
- Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness

Term full-time position that may continue until October 27, 2025

Hours of Work: 40 hours a week, occasional evening and weekend commitments

Salary: $29.534 - $37.001 (Hourly); $61,666.99 - $77,258.09 (Annually)
