Marketing and Communications Specialist - Experience

Salary: $54,996.00/year - $68,745.00/year

What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· Experience in planning, executing, and analyzing marketing promotions with a data-driven approach, using insights to refine lead generation, acquisition, and retention strategies and effectively report on campaign performance to business partners.
· Proven experience in social media management and content creation, including video production, storytelling, and graphic design, with a focus on engaging diverse audiences.
· Strong writing, editing, and project management skills, with the ability to develop content strategies informed by audience insights and engagement metrics.
· Proficiency with digital marketing and social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
to create, track, and analyze performance.
· Demonstrated ability to set and evaluate KPIs for marketing initiatives, using metrics to drive growth and engagement.
· Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, HubSpot) for segmentation, nurturing, and tracking campaigns.
· Experience with CMS platforms for updating web pages and creating member-centric landing pages.
· Strong collaborative skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams to align business partners and achieve shared goals.
· Proven experience collaborating with creative agencies, with strong skills in writing clear, strategic briefs to guide creative direction and ensure alignment with campaign objectives and brand standards.
· A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in marketing or communications,
ideally within a nonprofit or charitable organization.
· A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
· Three professional references.
· Comfort leading and organizing emergency and/or crisis communications response.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
The Marketing and Communications Specialist - Experience, will create and execute a comprehensive growth and community engagement strategy centered on storytelling and deepening connections with the YMCA community.
Key responsibilities include:
· Plan and develop annual lead generation campaigns focused on acquisition, growth, and retention.
· Oversee paid media strategies to enhance YMCA Calgary's brand presence and drive conversions for our paid programs.
· Lead content marketing and storytelling initiatives that showcase health, wellness, and our positive community impact.
· Collaborate with our Experience team to ensure consistent communication and engagement throughout the member journey.
· Use analytics to refine content performance, optimize engagement rates, and measure campaign effectiveness.
What You Will Do
· Plan, execute, and analyze marketing promotions to drive lead generation and member acquisition, growth, and retention, using data insights to refine strategies and report back on campaign performance to business partners.
· Plan and execute email marketing campaigns to deepen customer engagement.
· Leverage social media trends, video content, and seasonal promotions to attract, engage, and retain members.
· Develop engagement opportunities around special milestones (e.g., birthdays, anniversaries) and collaborate with the Experience team to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.
· Design and implement an organic social media strategy to increase engagement, reach, and advocacy, with a focus on storytelling.
· Create engaging content-including videos, graphics, blog posts, and stories-that highlights the organization's community impact and connects members to meaningful experiences.
· Support operational communications for program and facility updates, keeping members informed and engaged.
· Plan and manage a content calendar aligned with major campaigns and initiatives to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
· Set objectives and track outcomes to ensure continuous improvement and feedback loops.
· Provide media relations and crisis communications response support.
· Plan and coordinate events as needed, which may involve some evening or weekend work.
