- A Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is required
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, specifically in planning, budgeting and financial analysis
- If candidates do not fully meet the above requirements, they may be considered at the opportunity concept level.

Opportunity Concept:

- University Degree (Bachelor or applied)) in an accounting related discipline working towards a recognized Accounting designation (either eligible or accepted into the CPA program)
- One year of progressively responsible full-cycle accounting experience (budgeting, month-end and year-end accounting, and variance analysis)




- Or an Accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) without the requisite year of experience.

Assets:

- Knowledge of the corporate financial system (SAP), budgeting system (COBS) and interrelationships to departmental accounting operations would be an asset

Skills required for success:

- Possess strong communication skills to build effective working relationships with business partners and to provide guidance and instruction to peers in the organization
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, requirements and practices
- Ability to take initiative, think logically, problem solve independently and complete detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, within the scope of the position, is required
- Ability to be flexible and thrive in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
- Effective prioritization and organizational skills are required Strong technical proficiency in Google applications, Excel and Word are required
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills for application in a complex financial environment

This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. ​

Reporting to the Finance Manager,



this position is responsible for delivering activities associated with the preparation of complex financial analytics and contributing to the development of financial recommendations or advice provided to clients in support of their operations.

What will you do?

- Provide financial analytics, strategic support and consultative services to business partners, facilitating a culture of strong financial governance and stewardship over the operating budget
- Actively partner with various teams across the organization to assist with ad-hoc reporting, analysis and decision support as required
- Prepare variance analysis on financial results, including comparisons to budget, projections and historical trends
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for branch operating expenditures and revenues
- Prepare operating budgets,



perform budget consolidations and update and maintain information in the City’s budgeting system
- Perform financial analysis to assist in the development of operating budget proposals, business cases and council reports
- Support the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager in providing advice and guidance to operational business partners
- Review and recommend process changes to reduce errors, streamline process and manage risk
- Ensure adherence of financial practices to City policies and procedures
- Perform additional related duties as required
