Job Summary
HOOPP’s Risk Division is responsible for a number of critical functions at HOOPP, including our Compliance function which is responsible for the monitoring, reporting and oversight of business activities to ensure regulatory compliance. The Compliance function transforms data into relevant information required for decision-making and for meeting regulatory requirements in support of both internal and external stakeholders.
Our Compliance Group is looking for a Student Intern to join our dynamic Risk Division at HOOPP. If you’re looking for a rewarding opportunity, we encourage students in their 3rd year, currently enrolled in a post-secondary program that have a keen interest in Risk and Compliance to consider joining our team.
What you will do:
- Review and analyze securities positions, transactions,
and regulatory filing requirements to identify reportable events.
- Pro-actively support the ongoing evolution of the compliance testing and monitoring of portfolio/trading environment and related processes; identify any gaps, process improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions. Monitor regulatory websites and other public sources for changes to sanctions lists, reporting thresholds and investment limits.
- Support the development and maintenance of compliance metrics and reporting.
- Creatively develop compliance training and communication materials, including presentations, internal procedures, training guides, and memos.
- Pro-actively liaise with individuals and teams across the business, building and maintaining constructive professional relationships and a positive compliance culture.
- Escalate reportable events and issues timely to Compliance management in an accurate, clear and concise manner.
What you will bring:
You are currently engaged in a post-secondary program in your third year (or higher), have a strong understanding of capital markets functions and frameworks, knowledge of regulatory risk management including the role of regulatory agencies and the compliance function, and excellent relationship management and people skills.
- Enrolled in a college or university program with a focus in compliance, law, commerce, finance or accounting
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course, or working toward a Chartered Financial Analyst or similar designation considered an asset
- Previous work experience working in an investment management or risk and compliance environment considered an asset
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; specifically in Excel required
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize, strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and to manage conflicting priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills to facilitate interaction with senior staff
- Strong analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills
- Excellent communication both written and verbal
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Regulatory Compliance Management frameworks is an asset.
