Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Biostatistician. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Centre for Health Informatics offers cutting-edge analytical and project services to researchers seeking data access, linkage, and analytics. CHI provides a one-stop shop for researchers, assisting from project development through to report writing.

Reporting to the Manager of the Centre for Health Informatics.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):





- Works closely with Principal Investigators to develop analytical plans and carry out those analyses
- Communicates efficiently and effectively with investigators and team members
- Acts as primary liaison between contracted investigators and the Centre for Health Informatics
- Responsible for reporting on projects and producing final reports
- Performs complex analyses within appropriate timelines, using their expertise with SAS/SQL, SPSS, R or Python, Stata, Joinpoint, or other software for analyses
- Develops and reviews SQL query requests to access and extract data from databases to provide timely reports when requested by Principal Investigators and research teams
- Conducts research and provides documentation for use in scholarly publications
- Assumes responsibility for data security, confidentiality, and data accuracy
- Multi-tasks and appropriately allocates time for several projects
- Participates in an environment conducive to world-class development and scientific research
- Provides leadership in statistical and related content
- Participates and fosters a culture of communication, collaboration, efficiency and creativity




- Conducts literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation for use in scholarly publications
- Provides statistical expertise in the areas of logistic regression modelling, multivariate data analysis, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and data management

Qualifications / Requirements:

- Required MSc in statistics, biostatistics, or epidemiology, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant research area
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience in statistics and data analysis
- Medical, nursing, or other health professional degree an asset
- Ability to perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of complex technological systems
- Ability to provide technical support for other team members
- Strong knowledge of database management, data extraction, cleaning and complex analysis




- Direct and demonstrable research experience in the subject matter of the research project is an asset
- Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide technical support through consultations on contracted services
- Extensive knowledge of theory and application of related technical procedures
- Solid experience with analyzing large administrative databases such as hospital Discharge Abstract Data (DAD), Physician billing claims (PC), Ambulatory Care Classification System database (ACCS), and Alberta Health Registry data (HCIPR)
- Willingness to learn and work with new databases
- Expert working knowledge of statistical programming languages such as SPSS, SAS, R or Python, and STATA
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
