Job Summary
HOOPP, with over $100 billion in assets, is one of Canada’s largest and most successful defined benefit pension plans. As an Investment Risk - Private Markets Co-op Student in the Investment Risk team, you will work closely with the Senior Director of Private Market Investment Risk to support key initiatives in risk research and the development of innovative tools for measuring and monitoring private market investment risk. This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the foundational development of a new investment risk management framework while gaining hands-on experience in private markets.
What you will do:
Support the Development and Maintenance of the Private Markets Deal Pipeline:
- Organize and update the private markets deal pipeline, covering Real Estate, Private Equity, and Infrastructure investments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to track deal statuses and provide timely updates on investment opportunities.
- Develop and implement systematic processes to enhance the efficiency and transparency of pipeline management.
Assist in Building and Managing a Performance Database for Approved Deals:
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of a database tracking the performance of approved investments across asset classes.
- Collect and verify historical and ongoing performance data from various sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Create insightful reports and dashboards to support performance monitoring and decision-making processes.
Conduct Industry Research and Support Risk Due Diligence:
- Perform detailed research on industry sectors to identify trends and assess risks, supporting the Investment Risk Committee (IRC) review process.
- Assist in due diligence efforts by gathering and analyzing data from market reports, financial statements, and other sources.
- Prepare concise reports and presentations to aid in evaluating potential investments and identifying risks.
What you bring:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in business, commerce, economics, or a related discipline, with knowledge of financial management and economic concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with data analysis or visualization tools is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Experience or familiarity with AI tools is an asset.
- A strong sense of curiosity, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
