Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Investment Management Reporting, the position will aid in the production, analysis, and reporting of P&L; and management information as it relates to the investment area of the fund. This will include reporting of investment management compliance, performance measurement & attribution, and asset mix / FX Exposure information within all investment asset categories of HOOPP. The incumbent will also ensure methodologies of calculation comply with accepted industry practice for each asset class and will ensure consistent, accurate, and timely reporting. Responsibilities will also include partnering with team members to document and update procedures and assisting the team to identify, select, and implement new performance, attribution, and asset mix technologies.
HOOPP’s Finance division is responsible for a number of critical functions at HOOPP, including our controller and accounting functions, administration of investments and other financial transactions, and transforming data into relevant information required for decision making and meeting regulatory requirements, in support of both internal and external stakeholders.
Our Investment Management Reporting group within the Finance division is looking for Student Interns to join our dynamic and rewarding division at HOOPP. What you will do:
- Provide insight and propose analytical options, if applicable,
on Investment Management Reporting in order to enhance reporting.
- Ensure that benchmark returns used for the various investment categories are consistent and that changes and enhancements to benchmarks are documented prior to implementation in performance measurement database.
- Analyze the daily, weekly and monthly data feeds that are automatically downloaded to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- Analyze and confirm the methodologies and the accuracy of the performance and benchmark calculations.
- Analyze performance reports including attribution analysis, for distribution to portfolio managers on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis as required.
- Maintain proper documentation of performance measurement processes
- Assist with business requirement initiatives with Investment Management and IT to enhance existing analytical tools and reports.
- Maintain a procedure manual to provide details on processes, controls and reporting of Investment Management Reporting.
What you bring:
- Interest in the investment industry
- Working towards a University degree in the following fields: finance, commerce, economics, business administration, mathematics.
- Working towards a professional designation (i.e., CGA, CMA, CA, CFA, CIPM) would be an asset.
- An understanding of/interest in accounts/portfolio structures and multi-asset portfolios.
- Understanding of performance measurement and performance attribution methodologies.
- Some product knowledge. Knowledge of derivative valuations and structures would be an asset.
- Excellent research, technical, analytical and verbal/written communication skills.
- Proactive team player, displaying professionalism and integrity within a dynamic environment.
- Ability to think conceptually, who is creative and able to see new ways of doing work and develop/implement improvements.
- Working knowledge in the use of financial and investment database systems would be an asset. General working knowledge of data bases and SQL would be an asset.
- Good working knowledge of Excel (e.g. using large linked workbooks, macros and VBA) is a must.
