Our Safe Mobility Section has an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, self-motivated electronics technician.
As an Automated Enforcement Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various automated enforcement systems and equipment.
Utilizing advanced technology and strong troubleshooting expertise, you will play a key role in helping to reduce the number of traffic collisions by ensuring Automated Enforcement Systems and equipment are properly installed, serviced, and maintained. The equipment includes (but is not limited to): Intersection Safety Devices (ISD), Photo Radar and Photo Lidar equipment, and solar-powered Driver Feedback Signs (DFS).
What will you do?
- Follow all workplace safety practices and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Service all Automated Enforcement equipment to address trouble tickets entered into the Maintenance Ticketing System, this includes configuration, programming, troubleshooting, and testing of the system or its components
- Use vendor-specific software interfaces and 3rd party IT programs to complete system configurations
- Set up network and cellular communications, wiring, and terminations according to diagrams and procedures
- Perform basic electrical work, wiring, and electrical testing on Intersection Safety Devices
- Coordinate with contractors for equipment installation including in road sensors, confirm installation specifications are met, perform wire splices and sensor tests
- Follow road safety procedures and traffic accommodation procedures to maintain embedded road sensors as required
- Evaluate system log files and daily reports to verify system functionality
- Accurately complete detailed service reports, spreadsheets, and updates to equipment inventory
- Plan, manage and complete preventative maintenance procedures on enforcement equipment
- Maintain and organize city vehicles for proper upkeep and everyday use
- Effectively prioritize, plan, and manage time
- Ensure compliance with the manufacturer's specification, electrical code, and CSA approval while meeting the City of Edmonton and Provincial requirements
- Perform additional duties as required
Qualifications
- Engineering Technology Diploma in Telecommunications, Wireless Systems, Electronics, or a related field or a Journeyman Electronic Technician Certificate
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in electrical/electronic disciplines
Assets:
- Experience with automated enforcement systems and equipment
- Experience working with computer systems, system integration and configuration and software installations
- Experience with wire terminations and splicing and working with AC and DC power
- Technical knowledge of intersection safety device design, operation and maintenance, vehicle detection systems and technologies, radar principles, and operations
- Knowledge of traffic safety regulations and guidelines
- Familiarity with the City of Edmonton's transportation infrastructure
Skills required for success:
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic principles,
theory, and safe practices
- Proficiency in using multimeters and power supplies
- Knowledge of communications technology, such as ethernet, serial communications, and wireless systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Communicate and deal effectively with internal staff, contractors, the general public, and equipment operators

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must be able to work at heights using aerial lifts
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:
- The work environment is a combination of office settings, fieldwork, and on-site installations. You will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be exposed to electrical and mechanical hazards. Proper safety training and protective equipment will be provided to ensure your safety.
