ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)
The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

Employment Type
Temporary full-time (35 hours per week until May 2026).
Probation Period
3 months from the date of hire.
Education Required
Graduation from high School grade 12 or equivalent.
Experience Required
Minimum 6 months to 1 year of recreation or coordination experience.
Overtime Status
Non-exempt.
The Recreation Supervisor assists in the delivery of programs for community members. This includes coordinating the day-to-day youth activities and ensuring facilities are well maintained. As an advocate for healthy families and communities, the Recreation Supervisor possesses solid communication skills and is a results-oriented individual who takes a pro-active approach to initiating and following through with a variety of recreation projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. 1. Assists in the implementation of after-school and right to play programs for children and youth.
2. Encourages participants and parents to take the initiative to stay active in the after-school program so they can carry forward positive behaviors.
3. Consults with social workers, other professionals, and families when appropriate.
4. Ensures a safe, comfortable,
and welcoming environment for children and youth providing age-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
5. Promotes behavioral change and personal growth of children and youth who are having difficulties coping because of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
6. Provides life skills, training as per goals set out by the youth.
7. Supports youth to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach.
8. Works within the youth’s community to utilize local resources and programs.
9. Maintains awareness of community resources and gaps, as well as the socio-economic and geographical make-up of the community.
10. Assists the Manager with special projects, activities, events, and fundraising.
11. Participates in field trips designed to incorporate education.
12.
Prepares and submits regular activity reports to appropriate agencies such as Knucwentwecw Society, Three Corners Health Services Society and Right to Play Society in the absence of the Recreation Manager.
13. Schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage for all activities in the absence of the Recreation Manager.
14. Ensures traditional Indigenous and cultural approaches are incorporated into community recreation services and activities.
15. Assists in researching funding for programs and activities.
16. Records daily attendance log, statistics and evaluates programs and activities at the end of each month.
17. Participates in various community support and committee meetings.
18. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
19. Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge
- - Knowledge of Microsoft Office software at an intermediate/advanced level

WORKING CONDITIONS
- - This position requires physical hands-on work such setting up and taking down recreational equipment and participating with youth in supporting activities.
- Most services are provided immediately.
- To be aware of sensitivity, confidentiality and urgency of requests while balancing other work commitments.
- Travel will be required.
- Non-standard hours of work – May be required to accommodate the community needs and that may consist of evenings and weekends.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- - Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License
- Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate, WCB approved Level-1
- Must have or be willing to get a Class 4 license.
