Leadership & Major Gifts Officer (13-month contract, parental leave)
Food Banks Mississauga’s vision is A Mississauga where everyone is food secure. We lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.
Job Purpose
- Create and implement a comprehensive, long-term strategy for engaging and building relationships with current and prospective mid-level/leadership ($1,000 to $9,999) and major donors ($10,000+) that achieves current and future revenue goals.
Key Performance Areas
Program Management(40%)
- Sole team member responsible for driving the acquisition, engagement, management, and retention of donors within FBM’s mid-level/major gifts program
- Work in partnership with the Individual Giving & Stewardship Manager in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donor prospects
- Create custom, individualized donor plans to achieve financial goals established by FBM
- Establish and monitor performance metrics for the program (including non-financial) and evaluate effectiveness; create reports (in consultation with the Director of Development); propose course correction when and as needed
- Using the defined donor journies, utilize the mechanism for monitoring and tracking by recording all moves management in the CRM (Raiser’s Edge) and provide recommendations for best practices on donor data collection and use for your portfolio
- Work collaboratively to build a ‘culture of philanthropy’ within FBM, inviting relevant staff such as the Director of Development and CEO to participate in qualification, cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship activities, as appropriate
- Update policies and procedures relating to the program, as needed
Solicitation (35%)
- Personally carry a significant portfolio of donors, soliciting mid-level and major gifts
- Manage relationships with prospective donors including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding
- Develop and craft strategic proposals based on FBM short and long-term funding goals to use in solicitation of donors
Stewardship (15%)
- Implement a best-in-class stewardship program to maximize the donor experience and encourage ongoing engagement as well as transformational giving
- Develop and execute customized stewardship journeys to engage middle and major donors including events, personalized communications, collateral, and other content. Implement stewardship plans for select mid-level donors and all major gift donors
- Collaborate with FBM leadership and staff on necessary and useful major donor communications
Other (10%)
- Participate in activities,
initiatives, and special projects as requested
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience with a focus on working with individual donors
- College diploma, university degree, or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field
- Proven success in securing gifts of $10,000 or more in leadership and major gifts, utilizing moves management and asks, assessing capacity through prospect research, and managing donor relations
- Demonstrated experience with customer management systems (preferably Raiser’s Edge) or other moves-management systems

- Technical.
Computer proficiency with strong skills in Office 365 and/or Google Workplace; experience with CRM software. FBM is a cloud-based, paperless environment
Role Details
Scope: Mid-level and major donors give approx $1.2M annually
Relationships: Reports to the Director of Development and member of the Development team
Works closely with the Individual Giving & Stewardship Manager, Corporate Partnerships Officer, Foundation & Grants Officer and internal stakeholders
Position Type: 13-Month Parental leave contract. Evening and weekend work may be required and lieu time can be taken
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000
