TO Live is currently seeking Theatre Captain to join us for our diverse lineup of shows and other activities at our downtown venue Meridian Hall.
These are seasonal part-time positions for outgoing customer service oriented team players that thrive in a fast paced, diverse theatre environment.
These positions work a varied schedule including weekdays, weekday evenings and weekends. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work any of the above. Weekday matinee shifts are mandatory. This is a unionized position; successful candidates will be required to join IATSE Local B-173.
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review info sheet and disseminate information to the staff.
- Check uniforms at call-time to ensure they are complete/worn according to established standard.
- Prepare Position sheet.
- Schedule & supervise FOH staff breaks.
- Organize and supervise late seating and attend to patron seating issues.
- Handle double seating, liaising with Box Office (if unable to resolve, escalate to Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager).
- Orientation and training new staff; make recommendation to Patron Services Manager, re: probation.
- Supervise FOH staff on the floor throughout their shift.
- Draft post-show report for Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager.
- Respond to theatre attendant’s radio calls; escalate as necessary to Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager.
- Keep track of the theatre attendant’s late arrivals and missed shifts; keep Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager informed.
- Assist in Theatre Attendant duties as needed.
- Supports and assists Head Ticket Taker as needed.
- Supports and assists Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager as needed.
- Assists Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager to ensure safe workplace, meeting health and safety obligations.
- Get feedback from the staff at the end of the show meeting.
- Briefed on and aware of TO Live’s sponsorship obligations and any specific sponsor visits or activities by Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager.
- Liaise with Maintenance as needed.
- Communicate all Operations needs/issues to Patron Services Manager/Duty Manager (ex. Heating, cooling, etc.)
- Communicate all client needs/issues to Patron Services Manager and/or Duty Manager.
- Supervise front entrance in absence of Front Doorperson.
- Maintain Theatre Attendant Codes of Conduct per manual.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Maintain high level of customer service, interpersonal, oral and written communication,
and staff supervisory skills at all times.
- Displays fair and consistent behaviour.
- Able to make difficult and quick decisions under stress, pressure or emergency situations, taking full responsibility for actions at all times.
- Displays consistent and strong people skills, including teamwork, effective communication (written and oral), respect for themselves and those under them.
- Ability to use positive influence and effectiveness to motivate staff.
- Active, leading by example, and uses their position to enhance and improve employee performance through discipline, positive reinforcement and empowerment of those under them.
- Smart Serve Certified and legal age to serve alcohol in Ontario.
- Prior theatre experience is considered an asset.
- Understand Fire Plans and emergency procedures.
- First Aid certificate.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Extreme noise during some performances and events.
- Potential danger in coordinating movement and safety of large numbers of people.
- Physical discomfort caused by lack of formal meal or comfort breaks.
- Ability to stand and walk freely and quickly for long period of time.
- Variable hours of work depending on performance and event schedules.
- Occasional stressful emergency situations involving patron and client illness and injury.
- Travel between TO Live venues as required.
