Riveredge Coordinator (Contract)

Salary: $150.00/day

What qualifications are we looking for?
We strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
· Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within outdoor based programs
· Experience supervising or mentoring counsellors
· Previous experience working with people of all abilities and a solid understanding of the integration process
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
· Evidence of proof of COVID-19 vaccine
· Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and Responsibilities include;
· Provide a fun, safe,
and healthy environment for all campers
· Provide support to counselling team through mentoring, working alongside, giving feedback and organizing camp systems
· Respond to and support counsellors when approaching behaviour challenges and first aid situations
· Act as the site Duty Manager when the Camp Director is not present
· Meet and greet parents and campers on arrival and departure from camp. Communicate to parents about injuries or situations that happened throughout the day
· Act as a member of the camp team including pre and post camp clean up
· Demonstrate and role model positive behavior when working with other staff, campers and members
· Follow YMCA Calgary Policies and Procedures
· Attend mandatory staff training prior to camp and all future staff meetings including weekly evening meetings
· Be willing and prepared to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
· Build meaningful relationships with Staff to develop a professional skillset
· Open to communicate ideas and receive critical feedback
· Manage and maintain program areas and schedules to ensure maximum experience
· Communicate effectively as part of the support team to ensure smooth running of camp
· Act as a counsellor when ratio is required
· May take on leadership of a specific program or group of campers, for example Bike Camp or Spring programs
For Bike Camp Coordinator:
· Own and be prepared to bring their own bike and helmet to work
· Be confident riding a bicycle on roads and directing others
· Have a working knowledge of bike maintenance (ex. break tightening, puncture repair, putting a chain back on)
· Be confident with road way laws and be able to educate others on safe cycling procedures
· Plan and assess off site trips for safety hazards and the best possible learning opportunities
· Be familiar with Calgary's bike path network, specifically around Glenmore Reservoir and SW Calgary
