YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE

We are looking for a Co-op Student in 4606 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 1K5 CAN. Your mission will be to:

Prepare media, chemicals and reagents.

Prepare, homogenize, weigh and perform simple extraction of samples

Provide routine sample analysis such as moisture, ash, pH, sensory, etc.

Collect, wash and dry glassware and other containers used throughout the laboratory and return to the designated locations in the laboratory. Conduct a residue test on glassware as needed.

Ensure the department is stocked with necessary supplies.

Maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory and surrounding areas.

Assist the maintenance and janitorial personnel with other cleaning requirements as requested.

Update logbooks and maintenance records as required.

Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.

Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes. Perform necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the function being performed.





This position has the responsibility and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed non-conforming system and notifies the supervisor.

Adhere to all safety policies.

Perform other related duties as needed.

YOUR PROFILE

This position requires the ability to follow specific instructions.

A general understanding of the needs of the laboratory is required to avoid delays in sample testing or inaccurate results.

Excellent verbal communication skills are required to interact with peers and management.

Management:

None

Work Environment:

The incumbent works in the laboratory with proper lighting and temperature control.

Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory.





The incumbent works in the laboratory with increased temperatures near the autoclave and washer.

The incumbent is required to wear masks, laboratory coat and insulated gloves when working with the media.

Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds is necessary when loading and preparing samples for autoclaving.

The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.

Compensation Range:
$18.43 CAD per hour
