Description

The Physician Learning Program in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Information Design & Digital Engagement Specialist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Physician Learning Program (PLP) is seeking an Information Design and Digital Engagement Specialist to contribute expertise in information design to healthcare quality improvement (QI) projects. Reporting to the Managing Director, PLP, the Information Design and Digital Engagement Specialist will work collaboratively with the PLP Calgary project managers, medical directors.





PLP is an innovative program that supports physician self-assessment through data-driven educational methods. The program is funded by Alberta Health and operates out of both the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta. PLP helps physician groups answer clinical questions using implementation science methods to achieve results. PLP provides physicians with clinical practice reports and facilitated opportunities to reflect on practice data with colleagues to identify change opportunities.

The Information Design and Digital Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the PLP team by designing engaging, user-centred knowledge tools and products focused on QI and data-driven practices. This position combines expertise in information design and digital engagement to translate complex medical practice data into actionable insights that support physician practice improvement.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Design and Content Development:

- Design and Create Knowledge Tools & Products: Develop external and internal-facing materials (presentations, academic and information posters,



infographics, decision aids, clinical care pathways, annual reports, and project templates) that facilitate understanding of complex QI concepts for healthcare professionals
- Data Visualization and Evidence-Based Design: Use data visualization techniques to create accessible, visually engaging reports, knowledge tools and products that support data-driven decision-making, practice improvement, and clinical reflection
- Project Dissemination: Present project findings visually in both academic and non-academic settings and ensure all materials adhere to PLP's privacy and data-handling protocols
- Partnerships and Collaboration:



Work closely with medical directors and project stakeholders to identify the best strategies for conveying physician practice data and test these designs with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effectiveness

Digital Engagement, Social Media, and User Experience (UX):
- Enhance Digital Engagement: Design and implement digital engagement strategies, utilizing data and feedback to continuously adapt content to physicians' needs
- Community Building and Support Networks: Facilitate online communities (e.g., discussion forums, virtual workshops) to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and peer learning among physicians
- Social Media and Online Presence: Manage PLP's social media channels to engage healthcare professionals, promote resources, and share QI insights ensuring consistency with the program's educational mission and objectives
- Website Management: Update and maintain the PLP website

Problem Solving and Collaboration:
- Identify Needs and Define Scope:



Engage with project management team to understand needs and define the scope of information design and data visualization element
- Information Design Advocacy: Promote information design methodologies, demonstrating their value in supporting QI initiatives and enhancing digital learning experiences
- Collaboration with Program Team: Work closely with the PLP team to ensure that all learning materials align with program goals and contribute to PLP's mission

Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Design, Instructional Design, Digital Media, or related field
- 3+ years of experience applying information design and/or systems thinking principles in healthcare, digital engagement, or instructional design
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), including Office 365 and Teams
- Proficient in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator




- Working knowledge of websites (e.g., WordPress) and social media platforms considered an asset
- Experience using data visualization tools considered an asset (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience in QI, healthcare data analysis, or audit and feedback considered an asset
- Familiarity with LMS platforms considered an asset (e.g., Moodle, Canvas)
- High level of comfort working with partners at various levels of influence within healthcare and academic environments
- Information Design Expertise: Skilled in applying information design principles to healthcare settings, with the ability to define problems and develop targeted solutions
- Data Visualization: Proficient in designing insightful data visualizations that support physician reflection and drive behavioral change
- Communication and Storytelling:



Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to present complex information in a clear, engaging way
- Organizational Skills: Excellent project management and organizational abilities to manage deadlines and coordinate with cross-functional teams
