Team Member Vacancies 2025

The Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit (GVPSU) is accepting applications to fill vacancies on the Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit.

PSU provides specialized services, advice, equipment, training and emergency response to ensure public safety, public order and investigative assistance. This includes attendance to public gatherings in support of right to peaceful protest and to mitigate the potential for violence. The unit is also trained in Obstruction Removal and Search and Canvassing techniques. PSU is ancillary to your primary duties and is not a full-time position.

The qualities listed below form the basis of selection:





- Must be able to work closely with members from other departments.
- Preference will be given to Constables.
- Must be in good physical condition and maintain that level throughout your tenure on the team.
- Must be able to think quickly in stressful situations.
- Must be identified as someone who is calm when working in large crowds and where chemical munitions have been deployed.
- Must be a team player and strong communicator.
- Must attend two PSU training sessions per year, consisting of three (3) days each (one session in the spring and one session in the fall)
- Must be prepared to give a minimum commitment for four (4) years to the PSU.
- Must understand that the majority of PSU requirements are on a call out basis and be prepared to attend a reasonable number of callouts per year.
- Must be willing to carry either a personal or work designated cellular phone and have the ability to respond to call out situations in a reasonable timeframe.

Members are requested to detail in their written submissions (expression of interest / cover letter)



all relevant information they feel is necessary to support their application. It is recommended that members clearly outline their knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the position. (One-page maximum)

The most suitable candidates will be chosen for the position taking into consideration the information contained in the members letter of interest, general suitability for the position, supervisor input and interview.

Selection Process:

Stage 1: Submission of application

Stage 2: Review of applications, background checks etc.

At this point, applicants who were unsuccessful will be notified and an opportunity for feedback will be provided at the conclusion of the entire process.

Stage 3: Interviews for those who advance.

Applicants will be interviewed by the selection committee.



The interview board consisting of the OIC of PSU and or the Team Leader and at least one other member from one of the contributing municipal agencies. Interview dates to be determined.

Stage 4: Conclusion of process

At the conclusion of the process, applicants will be notified if they were successful or unsuccessful. Those selected will be required to attend the basic spring training days. All members selected will need the basic training completed prior to being deployed. As a result, no reserve list will be created.

Stage 5: Feedback

All candidates will have an opportunity to receive feedback once the selection process has been completed.

Applications due February 7th, 2025 at 08:00 hrs.

2. "Application for Position or Supplemental Duty" form signed by your current supervisor and manager.

All applications will be reviewed by VicPD’s Human Resources and approved applications will be forwarded to the OIC of GVPSU for final review and selection.

Successful Applicants must ensure they are free from work or court commitments from May 6th to May 8th, 2025 to attend the 2025 required PSU spring training.

Successful applicants will be notified no later than March 14, 2025.
