Salary Range: $95,000-$105,000

We provide shared space and services to over 700 social mission groups, act as a community centre for social innovators, and help to launch new entrepreneurial and collaborative projects.

About the Role

The Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Director of Finance & Administration to lead financial operations across our diverse business, nonprofit, and charitable sectors. This role is crucial in building a strong financial foundation that supports innovative and transformative projects.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

- Oversee daily operations of the Finance department, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and loan payments.

- Lead the financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.

- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant month-end accounting close processes in line with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

- Manage cash flow to ensure operational needs are met.

- Review and approve bank reconciliations, balance sheet accounts, and payables.





- Prepare and oversee HST returns, EHT Annual Return, WSIB Reconciliation, and T4 distribution.

- Manage capital project tracking, financial audits, and contract deliverables of a financial nature.

- Oversee asset inventory, community bonds, and reserve funds in line with Board policies.

Digital Financial Systems

- Assess and implement modern, efficient, and user-friendly digital financial systems to enhance decision-making and member services.

- Conduct a thorough review of existing financial technology, identifying areas for improvement and aligning strategies with organizational objectives.

- Drive the adoption of tools like ERP, data analytics, and emerging technologies (e.g., AI) to add value.

- Establish governance and agile processes to improve financial technology operations.

Team Leadership





- Supervise and develop the Finance team, including hiring, training, and performance management.

- Provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to ensure team goals are achieved effectively.

- Lead team meetings to address challenges, set priorities, and establish strategies.

Budget Administration

- Coordinate the development and implementation of annual budgets and forecasts.

- Prepare and analyze funder expense reports as required.

Payroll Oversight

- Ensure payroll services, including deductions and benefit remittances, are processed accurately and meet legal requirements.

- Maintain robust controls and reconciliation processes.

Reporting & Analysis

- Deliver accurate financial reporting packages, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow projections, and variance analyses, to senior management, the Finance Committee, and the Board.




- Ensure program expenditures align with funding requirements and prepare financial reports for funders.

Internal Controls

- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard organizational resources.

- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and streamline financial processes.

Facilities & Support

- Administer the organization’s accounting systems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.

- Collaborate with management teams to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations.

- Support special projects and provide backup to the Operations as needed.

Information Management

- Keep track of key dates and organizational accountabilities such as insurance renewals, taxes, audit, etc.





- Be the source of key business information and for with the Managing Director to report on intelligence metrics

- Keep track of key governance files. by-laws, and minutes

Qualifications

- CPA

- Proven experience in financial management, preferably in multi-sector organizations (business, nonprofit, and charity).

- Strong leadership and team management skills.

- Expertise in accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.

- Experience with digital transformation and implementing financial technologies.

- Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, community-focused environment.

Additional Information

- This position is based at CSI’s Spadina location in Toronto, with occasional work required at other locations.





- Reports to the Managing Director and leads a team including the Accounts Manager and Accounting Coordinator.
