- Successful completion of Grade 12 or GED
- Minimum of 2 years’ recent experience in a fast-paced customer service environment, with computer data entry skills, along with experience operating a cash register for cash handling purposes
Skills Required for Success:
- Experience using GEOWARE Waste Management Software is an asset
- Knowledge of Waste Management services and initiatives is an asset
- Possession of First Aid Certification and WHMIS training
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic math and cash balancing duties with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to balance cash handling and general labour duties
- Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to provide courteous and professional services
- Ability to understand directions, follow procedures and very detailed identification and material handling requirements
- Ability to work in a stressful environment that has tight deadlines and short work windows with an ability to meet deadlines
- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, by demonstrating strong organizational and prioritization abilities
- Exceptionally strong conflict resolution skills and decision-making abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and build positive business relationships with stakeholders
- Must be able to understand and fully comply with written and verbal instructions
- Must be physically capable of performing assigned duties, specifically in environments with poor lighting, dust, noise and various weather conditions

Conditions of Employment:
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Sunday. Must be able to work various shifts from 5:30 am to 8:00 pm, 7 days a week, 362 days a year.

As a Scalehouse Attendant at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre,
you will provide a high level of customer service to commercial and residential customers as well as contractors and City of Edmonton employees.
The Scalehouse Attendant primarily works inside the Scalehouse but may be required to work at the Residential Transfer Station based on operational needs. You may be required to handle and process hazardous materials and perform various labour activities to maintain the site and ensure traffic flow. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
What will you be doing?
- Weigh, screen and track loads entering/leaving the EWMC using specialized computer software
- Ensure proper load disposal including ensuring all materials received fall within waste control regulations
- Understand directions,
follow procedures and memorize very detailed identification and material handling requirements
- Provide traffic control, snow removal and other related duties as required to Scalehouse and Site operations
- Handle cash transactions according to corporate standards and cash handling procedures with a high degree of accuracy
- Provide excellent customer service, follow the standard operating procedure to ensure the safety of the public and the employees and comply with all environmental requirements
- Educate the public and respond to customer inquiries along with good verbal and written communication to all individuals with professional and courteous service
- Work in a fast-paced environment doing multiple tasks under tight time constraints
- Perform other related duties as required
