Summary of Function:
Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is looking for a creative and innovative individual to lead the teaching and learning process for our teaching staff at AGS. The individual must demonstrate an understanding of teaching methods, philosophies, and theories. The individual must integrate Mi’gmaw Education Standards in developing and enhancing highly effective educational practices at AGS. The vice principal of pedagogy will support the school leadership in creating positive learning spaces where all students can learn and succeed.

Job Duties:

Review and assess current AGS teaching methods to enhance standard practices based on evidence-based practices for effective teaching.





Guide and coach educational staff to enhance their professional competencies and approaches to teaching and learning while keeping up with up-to-date teaching practices and Mi’gmaw approaches to learning.

Conduct regular classroom observations to guide and coach staff in the five major approaches to teaching and learning: constructivist, collaborative, reflective, integrative, and inquiry-based.

Conduct performance appraisals of the teaching staff

Guide and coach teachers on the five pedagogical standards: joint production activity (JPA), language and literacy development (LD), meaning-making (MM), complex thinking (CT), and instructional conversation (1C).

Work with the Principal to implement and guide the facilitation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School.

Provide advice and support to teachers on classroom management using universal learning design.

Work with teaching staff to ensure that Response-to-Intervention processes are used in the classroom for the inclusion of all learners.





Work with the Special Education Team to support students with socialemotional, behavioural or learning difficulties.

Promote a positive learning environment, nurturing team potential and encouraging innovation in problem-solving.

Provide monthly reports to the Director and Associate Director.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Minimum of five years’ experience as Pedagogical Consultant / Leader

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Aware of and able to appropriately interpret all applicable laws and regulations for education, policies and practice.

Demonstrates capacity for pedagogical leadership.

Culturally Proficient and sensitive to First Nations.

Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (word. Excel, Outlook)

Ability to pass a criminal background/Vulnerable Sector check.
