Our Resources subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. Over the decades, we have developed a wide range of services, including economic studies, project management, detailed design, procurement, site management, commissioning and industrial programming. This division provides a full range of services to industrial and mining projects, including all services offered in the field of engineering from conceptual and feasibility studies to complete detailed engineering in EPCM, to the closure and dismantling of mine sites. To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Layout Designer to join our Mechanical Team, located in any of our Canadian offices - Thunder Bay, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Thornhill, Sudbury, and/or Saskatoon, SK are preferred.
This position will play a key role in the design and optimization of the layout design of heavy industrial projects across the subsector. The successful candidate will have hands on experience with preparing 3D models and layout arrangements for plant upgrades and new facilities, putting together design sketches, drawing, developing process diagrams, and site plans through to detail. This role involves close collaboration with different disciplines as well as clients and stakeholders to understand their engineering needs, ensuring successful project coordination.

What you can expect to do here:
- You will prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities;
- You will prepare process flow diagrams;
- You will prepare design sketches;
- You will prepare design calculations and design briefs;
- You will prepare standard details;
- You will prepare trade-off studies and reports;
- You will assist in the checking of Vendor documentation;
- You will coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information,
while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained;
- You will provide input to departmental support tasks such as the maintenance and revision of equipment libraries, department standards and procedures.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent;
- 8+ years experience in mechanical engineering design specifically with experience in layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects;
- Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation requirements in the field;
- Must have consulting experience;
- Proven experience with Plant3D, Revit, Microstation, SolidEdge and SmartPlant;
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal);
- French language skills (written and verbal) an asset;
- Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude,
and a desire to perform design engineering;
- Strong critical thinking skills and an ability to problem solve effectively;
- Ability to work well in a team but also as an individual contributor.
