Position: Litigation Associate
Reporting to General Counsel in our litigation/credit and corporate departments, the Litigation Associate will be responsible for supporting our debt recovery portfolio. The successful candidate has exceptional attention to detail, demonstrated ability to work independently, and a strong dedication to providing excellent customer service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the debt collection litigation portfolio
- Perform case assessments and act as the liaison with debtors and their counsel as required
- Draft suite of litigation-related documents including but not limited to pleadings, motions, affidavits, applications, orders, bills of cost, notices of intention to enforce security, and forbearance agreements etc.
- Prepare and register writs
- Conduct enforcement proceedings
- Attend Court as required to manage litigation portfolio including motions,
settlement conferences and trials
- Manage Bankruptcy and Insolvency issues on collection files
- Manage Estate related collection matters
- Manage and maintain client relationships by responding in a timely and effective manner
- Management of files and data on Salesforce (CRM)
- Other duties as assigned
Education
A Law Degree
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of litigation experience is desired
- Must hold a valid license to practice law in the province of Ontario.
- Strong communication skills, internally and client facing
- Strong commitment to taking care of client and firm needs in a professional and courteous manner
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize workflow ensuring excellent service to our clients
- Ability to structure processes and controls
- Ability to work with strict deadlines and multiple priorities
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong personal flexibility – able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change
- Strong results orientation and an intense desire to achieve challenging objectives
- Able to work with a professional, high-performing team in a dynamic, growing industry sector
