The Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations will lead Indigenous relations and community engagement in Ontario & Quebec.

This position is ideally based in Ottawa.

This role will collaborate with Indigenous communities,



organizations, clients, and internal stakeholders to implement Bird's Indigenous Engagement Policy in a meaningful and consistent manner. The primary responsibility of the role is to maintain and further develop Indigenous Engagement plans that support the Indigenous Communities and Bird’s Business Development and Operations groups.

Policy aims to ensure a consistent and culturally appropriate approach that respects the diversity of the Indigenous landscape in Canada, while supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #92.

What You Will Be Working On

• Advise Bird business units on Indigenous Relations and business strategies.
• Develop and implement strategies for engaging with Indigenous communities, respecting their rights, cultures, and aspirations.
• Lead the development and execution of initiatives that support Indigenous communities.
• Advises on Bird corporate policies and processes supporting Indigenous Relations.
• Oversee preparation of Indigenous Engagement Plans for proposals.
• Run the implementation/operationalization of Indigenous Engagement Plans when project is awarded to Bird.




• Engage with Indigenous communities including attendance at community events, ceremonies and career fairs.
• Provide guidance and advice to senior management and project teams on Indigenous relations matters, ensuring alignment with our values and commitments.
• Prepare annual budget for approval.
• Oversee monitoring and reporting of Indigenous statistics, employment, spend, securement ratios.
• Instill a Culture of Indigenous reconciliation at Bird.
• Prepare regular reports and presentations.
• Work closely with Business Development, People & Culture, Estimating and Project Delivery teams.
• Advise on Agreements with Indigenous communities/enterprises including MOUs, Alliance Agreements, Incorporated Partnerships.
• Maintain Bird’s standing in the CCIB Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations.




• Provide input into strategic plans.

What We Are Looking For

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Indigenous relations, community engagement, or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, as well as experience working directly with Indigenous communities.
• Understanding the harmony of corporate responsibilities and Indigenous relations
• Proven track record of building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and leaders.
• Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups.




• Strategic planning with the ability to lead initiatives and influence change within an organization.
• Ability to travel as needed to meet with communities, attend events, and support project teams.
