Join Satlink, a leading developer of ocean sustainability and satellite communication solutions. Our mission is to develop advanced technologies that contribute to a more sustainable and connected future. In our team, we value creativity, collaboration and the constant search for innovative solutions.

At Satlink, we are looking for a passionate and highly skilled Senior Sonar Systems Engineer to join our Technology team. The position be based in Halifax (Canadá) . Join a company in a phase of expansion and growth, where you will find opportunities to lead innovative projects that will go hand in hand with professional development within a constantly evolving technological environment.

Role and responsibilities:

- Electronics Design for Sonar Systems: Design, develop, and optimize electronics for sonar systems using piezoelectric transducers. Create analog and mixed-signal PCB designs, including low-noise amplifiers (LNA), power amplifiers, and impedance matching circuits for transducers.Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to integrate electronics with sonar systems and embedded platforms.
- Characterization of Piezoelectric Transducers: Perform detailed characterization of piezoelectric transducers, focusing on frequency response, sensitivity, directivity patterns, and electrical impedance.Develop and use simulation tools to predict transducer behavior and optimize for specific applications.
- Testing, Certification, and Validation : Plan and conduct in-lab and in-field testing of sonar systems, including water tank and open-sea trials. Ensure that sonar systems meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, managing certification processes from start to finish. Lead environmental testing such as vibration, shock, and temperature variations to validate system durability and performance.

- Analog and Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Implement digital signal processing techniques to enhance sonar system performance, including noise reduction, signal filtering, and echo detection. Develop and optimize DSP algorithms for real-time sonar data analysis, using both FPGA and DSP platforms. Work with signal processing software (Matlab, Python, etc.) to analyze sonar data and improve detection accuracy.
- PCB Design for Analog and Power Electronics: Design printed circuit boards (PCBs) for high-frequency analog electronics and amplifiers used in sonar systems. Develop and optimize analog front-end electronics for signal conditioning and pre-processing. Ensure PCB designs are optimized for high performance, low power consumption, and minimal electromagnetic interference.
- Prototype Development and Field Testing:

Lead the development of sonar system prototypes, integrating transducers, amplifiers, and DSP components. Conduct field trials to assess sonar performance in real-world conditions, analyzing sonar returns to refine design. Analyze field data to detect anomalies, optimize system performance, and adjust designs based on findings.
- Cross-functional Team Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical engineers, software developers, and marine experts to ensure seamless system integration. Provide technical leadership in system architecture design and validation processes.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation, including technical specifications, test results, and certification records. Communicate technical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualification and training requirements:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field. A PhD is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in sonar system design, transducer characterization, and electronics for underwater applications.
- Strong knowledge of piezoelectric transducer technology and sonar electronics.
- Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, including PCB design for sonar systems.
- Expertise in digital signal processing (DSP) for sonar data interpretation.
- Proven track record in testing, validation, and certification of sonar systems.

What do we offer?

- Competitive fixed salary in line with the candidate's experience and skills.
- Young, stimulating, collaborative and motivating work environment.

- Possibility of professional development and growth in a constantly evolving technological environment.
