About the role

As ATB’s next Mortgage Underwriter, you play a key role in the approval process for all mortgage applications sourced by the Mortgage & Broker Services Sales team. All this is done within their lending limits and in accordance with service level agreements, compliance and the knowledge Guide.

This is a 12 month temporary opportunity.

Accountabilities

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct detailed credit analysis preceding the granting of a loan, based on credit information provided by the borrower.
- High level of service quality, credit decisioning and the ability to coach and counsel various members of the sales team regarding deal presentation and source documents provided. This includes the Credit quality of all source documents required to support the application.
- Refer applications outside of lending limits to the Manager, Underwriting or Retail Credit with recommendations.




- Coach and counsel various members of the Mortgage and Broker teams regarding deal presentation and source documents provided.
- On a daily basis, provide the highest level of internal and external client service while fielding inquiries and building strong relationships.
- Work towards constant refinement and streamlining of credit processes in order to reduce costs, improve turnaround times or improve credit quality while balancing the expectations of sales team members, clients and ATB Financial.

Key Relationships:

- On a daily basis, contact sales team members to provide direction regarding credit, operations and risk.
- Interact with Retail Credit and other corporate partners to ensure customer, sales team members, and ATB’s risk management expectations are met.

Skills, experience & requirements

Core Skills and Experience:





- An influencer with strong consulting and communication skills; is able to promote consistency of practice and employ flexibility in their approach.
- Recognized as an expert in their own area within the organization.
- Proven ability to execute on strategies that establishes a new bar for client service excellence within the Retail Banking Industry.
- Experience analyzing financial data and structuring credit recommendations.
- Experience reading and interpreting personal financial statements and information.
- Underwriter experience with mortgage and land secured lending is an asset.

Accreditation:
- Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Finance, Business or related experience is required.
- Minimum of 3 years lending experience.
- Mortgage fraud detection courses/programs are an asset.
