Security Services responds to alarms and accidents, provides emergency first aid and responds to unusual activity on campus 24/7. Security Services is considered an essential service within the University.

About the Role





The Security Systems Technician at Mount Royal University plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation and enhancement of the University's security infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Security Services, the Security Systems Technician is at the forefront of managing and maintaining access control systems, CCTV systems, and related security applications used by the Security Services Department.

In this dynamic role, the Security Systems Technician coordinates daily maintenance activities, conducts annual system inspections, and oversees the implementation and ongoing management of the Operations Center, utilizing Genetec products. The position also involves developing lifecycle management plans for security systems, recommending upgrades, and providing input on system enhancements.

A significant aspect of the role includes collaborating with Facilities Management and Information Technology Services (ITS) to support security systems' integration in renovations and new construction projects. The Security Systems Technician also provides administrative support for key management,



ensuring accurate issuance and record-keeping through the Keystone key tracking software.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the University's safety and security landscape through technical expertise and collaborative efforts. The hours of work for this position are established at 35.0 hours per week. However, the Security Systems Technician may be called upon to work off-routine hours or on an emergency basis, in the event of large-scale system outages.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and perform daily maintenance and repairs of access control, CCTV, and security systems.

Inspect, test, and repair security systems and related equipment.

Conduct and document annual inspections and implement system recommendations.

Oversee the implementation of the Operations Center (Genetec product).

Develop lifecycle management plans and recommend system upgrades.





Assist with security system planning and installation for renovations and new constructions.

Respond to after-hours critical system outages.

Create training documents and provide system training for the Security Services department.

Manage priorities based on urgency and life safety impact.

Provide administrative support for University key management and maintain key tracking software.

Qualifications

Education & Training:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as: information technology, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience or technical certifications in access control and CCTV.

Experience with project management and working with diverse stakeholders.

Experience with the Genetec platform (Mission Control, Security Desk, Operations Center, etc.) is considered an asset.





Experience with Icetana or similar AI systems are considered an asset.

Relevant security or networking certifications.

Experience with the Google Suite.

Experience:

Ability to work independently and with various trades.

Strong computer and networking skills.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.

Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Comfortable working in forward-facing security-focused environments.
