Position Summary
The Powwow Coordinator is a member of the Indigenous Engagement Team responsible for ensuring the successful execution of various Indigenous Programming events, specifically the Powwow. Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Engagement, the Powwow Coordinator oversees the planning, development, implementation, and fulfillment requirements for the Saddledome Powwow. The Coordinator collaborates closely with other members of the Powwow team as well as with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborative development of the planning and delivery for an arena-level powwow that includes cultural demonstrations, competition dancing, and engages audiences
- Coordinate with operational coordinators in developing production,
operation, registration, and arena/on-floor team who will execute the event
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including an Advisory Group
- Support marketing and communications in developing assets to promote the powwow
- Coordinate with Sponsorship to ensure program elements are fulfilled
- Set up processes for registration and accreditation; collaborate with team members to execute processes
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
- Familiar with Treaty 7 First Nations cultural protocols and powwow protocols
- Familiar with the Calgary Stampede
- Experience in planning and executing competition powwows; in an arena setting is preferred
- Experience in complex event planning and/or event production (including sound, lights, audience engagement, etc.)
- Strong presentation, communication (verbal and written), collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organization and administrative skills, attention to detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation
Terms of Position
- This is a seasonal position from February – July, 2025 working between 20 and 37.5 hours per week
- Due to the event based nature of this position, the majority of work will be completed in-office, on site at Stampede Park. There is some flexibility for remote work options on an approved basis.
