Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Brand and Communications, the Manager of Digital Communications and Marketing is a key member of the communications team and responsible for amplifying and consistently executing Covenant House Toronto’s brand and story by leading integrated digital communications and marketing strategies across channels, while ensuring content aligns with organizational priorities.
This includes managing the development of digital marketing campaigns, the social media content calendar and associated visuals, and the organization’s corporate website ensuring relevance to target audiences.
This position requires a strategic technical expert in the areas of digital marketing, website management,
analytics and project management with hands on experience working with the corresponding marketing and website tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy
• Work with the Director of Brand and Communications to develop the agency’s social media, web and thought leadership content strategy, and editorial plan.
• Lead cross-departmental content management for the agency by managing a cross-functional content committee.
• Provide strategic advice to ensure website content is updated regularly and follows best practices for search engine optimization and web accessibility.
• Develop and lead integrated brand-focused strategic marketing, communications and public awareness campaigns to increase brand visibility and stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure all communications campaigns are integrated,
to the fullest extent possible, with PR, digital, fundraising and advocacy efforts, and include clear objectives, deliverables and KPIs.
• Develop an influencer engagement strategy in collaboration with other members of the Communications team/department.
• Gain a deep understanding of our varied target audiences, who they are, what motivates them, how they are connected to the agency, etc.
• Analyze website and social media metrics to enhance user experience and conversion rates.
Multi-channel content management/development
• Plan, develop and implement creative content for multi-channel use including digital ads, website content, videos and social media that incites action and engagement and enhances our brand.
• Identify key stories within our agency and community to keep our social media channels and website updated with fresh content.
• Ensure content is available to other departments and targeted to their specific objectives and audiences, as required.
• Repurpose content for different channels including social media and videos.
• Ensure the agency’s brand, messaging and tone are consistent across all channels and content.
• Provide strategic communications and content support to other departments such as the Events, Major Gifts, Donor Services and frontline youth-facing teams.
• Apply a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to all communications strategies, ensuring alignment with our organization’s mission, vision and values.
• Stay updated on digital marketing trends and technologies.
Project management
• Manage Covenant House Toronto’s website redevelopment project to ensure project milestones and timelines are met and aligned with the approved budget.
• Manage vendor relationships with our website vendor and freelancers, along with timelines and budgets.
• Manage the creation of videos that showcase the organization’s impact from the Request for Proposals process through to concept development, production and content review and approvals.
Monitoring/reporting
• Conduct daily social media monitoring and engaging within channels to optimize content, identify insights and provide recommended courses of action to the Director of Communications.
• With the help of the Associate Manager of Digital Communications, develop monthly, quarterly and yearly reports on KPIs using Meltwater, Google Analytics and other social media tools to assess content performance and drive engagement.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, insights,
topics and best practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications and current relevant experience.
• Five to seven years of related work experience.
• Proven ability to lead and manage staff in a collaborative work environment.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to collaborate and empower individuals to take responsibility for their work and create learning opportunities for their staff to continually enhance their functional area of knowledge.
• Hands-on experience and proficiency with MS Office, Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress), Google Analytics, and various social channels and analytics tools.
• A strong background and understanding of content marketing tactics, such as SEO, digital advertising, social media marketing and web traffic metrics.
• Experience in managing video production vendors.
• Experience working in a non-profit organization an asset.
Additional Skills/Attributes:
• Proactive, highly organized, collaborative team player who can work with various departments in the organization to develop engaging content showcasing the impactful work helping youth.
• Creative, experienced and organized content strategist and creator with an ability to conceive interesting ideas for new content and deliver the right content for the right platform.
• Highly articulate with excellent English writing and copy-editing skills.
• Extensive writing experience, with an editorial mindset and deep understanding of the importance of storytelling, story angles, excellent attention to detail and knowing what content keeps audiences engaged.
• Experience in managing and creating digital content, possessing knowledge of best practices in basic SEO, content categorization and structure, content development, distribution, social listening and measurement.
• Ability to manage stakeholder expectations and ensure timely project completion.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and works well under deadlines.
• Self-directed critical thinker with an analytical mind and the ability to understand and identify an organization’s key strategic priorities.
• Strong ability to multi-task and manage short and long-term projects concurrently.
• Ability to work with vulnerable youth in order to convey their story in a sensitive and respectful manner.
• Project management experience managing websites redevelopment projects and leading an organization’s digital strategy.
