General Information
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Plant Manager is accountable for the safe, environmentally aware, ethical and cost-effective management and operation of the plant.
Within this role, the Plant Manger will sure the ensure the facility is managed and operated in a manner that enables the facility to achieve the required availability, environmental performance, sustainability, efficiency, cost and earnings targets over the life of the asset. This role will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement asset optimization strategies, and drive continues improvement, including equipment performance analysis, and budget planning.
The Plant Manager is required to possess strong decision-making abilities, strong technical knowledge, a depth of demonstrated field experience, and effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. This position is part of the senior management team committed to the overall development and growth of Atura Power.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure that all required regulatory, owner and stakeholder reporting obligations are carried out accurately, on time and are in compliance with, or exceed, applicable best practices.
- Responsible for ensuring the continuous professional and personal development of all staff at the facility to achieve stability and sustainability in all aspects of plant management and operations.
- Ensure continuous compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislation requirements by training, coaching and mentoring staff, developing, approving, implementing, reinforcing, maintaining and auditing adherence to controls such as policies, procedures, work practices/standards, accounting and regulatory standards and training programs.

accounting and regulatory standards and training programs.
- Continuously develop and apply all applicable health, safety and environmental policies and procedures and strive to continually improve all aspects of site safety and environmental performance.
- Liaise with local, provincial and Federal regulatory and government bodies to maintain compliance with legislation, maintain certifications and knowledge of acts and regulations having the potential to impact the facility.
- Actively participate in local environmental and community groups as appropriate – to maintain the image of the owners and promote the positive effect of the facility in the community.
- Minimize losses and risk exposure through consistent application of the Plant Loss Management program, including Incident Reporting, Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
- Accountable for developing and delivering the applicable 1 year, 3 year, 6 year, and 20 year station business plans (including budget and resource requirements, and risk analysis and review)
- Manage the plant organization in accordance with approved plans and budgets. Accountable for achieving bottom-line (profit/loss) performance in accordance with plans
- Maximize the value of the plant for Atura Power while complying with all legal requirements, IESO market rules, and contractual requirements. Working with the Energy Director, establish short term commercial operating plans.
- In collaboration with the Asset Management Director, establish maintenance plans as part of the facility business plan. Maintain and execute the facility maintenance system which prescribes maintenance activities and their frequencies,
with the objective of the facility meeting or exceeding its pro-forma performance (e.g., heat rate, capacity) and availability over its operating life. Maintain the facility in accordance with plans.
- Establish spare parts requirements and manage spare parts. Manage warranty claims with contractors. Manage maintenance contracts including Long-Term Service Agreements for major components. Propose facility capital improvement plans to the Director of Operations
- Ensure the appropriate level of staff education, training and personal development is achieved and maintained through establishing and monitoring education, training and personal development activities.
- Develop, issue and continuously improve site, stakeholder and corporate information reports.
- Track station performance against financial incentives or penalties within the Energy Conversion and GE Long Term Service Agreements,
including ongoing review of financial information to identify opportunities for increased earnings or reduced risk.
- Development and implementation of an asset life operating and maintenance strategy for the facility, including predictive and preventative programs, operating routines, staffing decisions, decision making philosophies and supporting procedures necessary for the availability of critical plant equipment.

Qualifications:
- A proactive and flexible approach to the presented challenges is required.
- Strong communication, leadership, supervisory and mentoring skills are required.
- Must have a proven track record in operating to the highest ethical standards.
- Must be proficient in information technology usage.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have good judgment and decision-making abilities
- Ability to embrace and lead change
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of PC-based computer systems and software applications with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Education/Experience:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or a combination of experience and education will be considered
- Relevant Red Seal trade certification such as Mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation, First Class Power Engineer, Professional Engineer, or a combination of the preceding certifications.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the operation & maintenance of power generation facilities
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisor and/or management position.
