Uplifting Your Career at Ornge
The Financial Analyst - Systems prepares and consolidates accurate financial reporting for Ornge and its partners. Ensures compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements. Supports management in planning and decision-making with a specialization on financial systems, testing, reporting and special projects.
Key Accountabilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Gathers and consolidates financial data from Ornge and all related entities to facilitate the completion of financial statements for Management for internal planning and decision making.
- Performs month-end closing procedures, including entries and reconciliations for all cash accounts, preparing journal entries, and conducting detailed financial statement analyses, performed on a line-by-line basis within SAP with a separate set of analytics being presented monthly.
- Supports the Financial Planning and Analysis team in analyzing variances against the budget and forecast and completing the annual budget.
- Ensures accurate, complete, and reasonable financial transactions to maintain reliable financial records.
- Performs detailed review of material contracts to ensure transactions are accounted for in accordance with proper accounting and statutory frameworks and correct payment schedules are implemented. Monthly and quarterly preparation of all balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepares and files commodity tax returns.
- Manages the fixed asset continuity schedule which involves detailed project costing for assets under construction and the creation and assessment of all assets.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Continuously interacts with various business units to ensure timely and accurate reflection of financial events.
- Applies and monitors various financial policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as set out in CBAs while maintaining a proper internal control framework.
- Ensures adherence to financial policies and provides accurate financial guidance to partners.
- Performs a quarterly internal audit over the vendor change process.
- Implements and monitors financial policies and internal controls and serves as the point of contact for financial coding queries.
Audit and Other Reporting:
- Prepares of quarterly CEO expenses reporting for FAC review.
- Provides support to Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) program, including preparation of monthly Trillium billing and other out of province billing, preparing detailed organ transfers reconciliation.
- Prepares various quarterly/annual Ministry of Health financial reporting in accordance with Performance agreement and special requests.
- Prepares all financial data survey requests from Statistics Canada and Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC)
- Prepares Organ flight transfer forecasts and assist in annual Organ transfer budget.
- Prepares annual property tax charity rebate applications and handle any property tax issues or developments.
- Reviews/submits T2202 (tuition) tax slips for Ornge’s courses and create/send donation tax receipts.
- Assists in collating audit requests for the external financial statement audit, as well as developing audit working papers and memos/explanations for accounting methods for auditors.
Special Projects – System Changes & Upgrades:
- Guided by the Manager, Financial Systems and Projects, this role supports special projects within the division that require systems changes and/or special report generation.
- Assists in the testing and validation of financial system enhancements and new implementations to ensure accurate functionality and alignment with business requirements.
- Thoroughly document-tests results, and aggregates information from other testers, based on the provided scenarios, offering detailed and constructive feedback to the project team for review and resolution of any issues identified.
- Monitors and tracks the progress of testing activities,
reporting status updates and potential risks to the project management or systems team.
Ad-hoc Requests:
- Supports other business units with ad-hoc financial analysis to help drive business decisions.
- Develops and implements cost tracking strategies to ensure all special projects and initiatives are accounted for accurately.
- Other ad-hoc reports and projects as requested by Manager(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business or related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting and analysis in a similar position.
- Experience in systems implementation and testing.
- Experience in aviation industry in a similar position.
- Experience with PSAS, ASPE and IFRS accounting standards, and understanding of GAAP.
- Broader Public Sector Act experience is preferred.
- Audit and taxation experience is preferred.
