Marketing Statement

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police Service is the Lower Mainland’s newest police service and the only one of its kind in Canada. In joining the Transit Police, you will be playing a key role in the safety of commuters and members of communities throughout the Lower Mainland. You will be helping to build the image of transit as a safe and desirable alternative to the personal automobile, which will ensure that the Lower Mainland remains a livable region for generations to come.

Responsibilities

- Provides clerical and data entry support to the Criminal Intelligence Unit:
- assists with the development and maintenance of a prolific offender database




- assists in monitoring files and calls for service to help identify emerging crime trends and patterns for the Crime Analysts for further analysis
- assists with maintaining the filing system, version control and other administrative duties as required
- assists with the creation and maintenance of a procedure manual
- Collects information from a variety of sources, enters the information into various spreadsheets and databases and compiles reports:
- collects and assembles information from a variety of sources for input into, various reports (TIP, TMT)
- maintains information in a comprehensive intelligence database used for analytical, mapping and research functions
- extracts data from PRIME to assist in identification and mapping of crime hot spots and patterns
- compiles operational crime statistics from various records management systems and units within the department for weekly/monthly statistical reporting

- assists in the research, collection and maintenance of open source data.




- assists with gathering and retrieving information from relevant paper and computer-based sources including PRIME, PIP, CPIC, ACIIS, NCDB, intelligence databases and open sources in support of operations initiatives and crime reduction strategies.
- assists with the compilations of Community Service Area statistics and maps.
- assists in monitoring files and calls for service to help identify emerging crime trends and patterns to the Crime Analysts for further analysis.
- maintains a close liaison with the Crime Analysts, undertaking tasks on their behalf, as directed.
- handles information and intelligence in accordance with local protocols and current legislation.




- assists in the sharing and dissemination of analytical products in a timely fashion taking into consideration any disclaimers that should accompany product (third party rule).
- Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Completion of Grade 12 including successful completion of courses in office procedures, word processing, spreadsheet and database software, working towards a degree in Social Sciences.

Experience

One (1) year of previous experience working in a police environment with experience creating entries in CPIC and PRIME. Experience in Intellibook, CORNET and JUSTIN would be an asset.

A further period of up to six (6) months in the position is required to gain knowledge of police roles and responsibilities, departmental and police information systems policies and procedures. Must pass security screening (including fingerprinting) and intake interview, for access to police databases.

Rate of Pay

Group: 6 $5,339 to $6,398 per month.





Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
