Senior Manager, Planning & Buying (1 Year contract , Maternity leave)

Hi, I’m Sara from JENNY BIRD. I’m the VP of Supply Chain Operations and we are looking for a Planning and Buying senior manager to join the team. We’re looking for someone who is data-driven, has a passion for analyzing trends, and thrives on optimizing inventory to drive sales and profitability. In this role, you’ll work closely with teams such as production, finance, sales and marketing to ensure the right product is in the right place at the right time while maintaining profitability. The Opportunity
Demand Planning, forecasting, analysis and inventory management
- Lead the development and execution of accurate demand forecasts, leveraging historical data, market trends, sales targets and collaboration with product development, sales, finance and marketing teams.
- Monitor and adjust product forecasts based on business performance, inventory levels, market changes, and seasonal trends.
- Communicate forecast updates and changes to stakeholders effectively
- Partner with production team to manage lead times and factory capacity planning
- Support the VP, Merchandising & Product Development in the development of full year SKU count guide by category, subcategory and collection for design team
- Participate in the development of promotional plans and markdown strategies to ensure that inventory levels are optimized
- Provide analytical support and post-mortems to product development teams for future development of seasonal assortments and lines of business
- Oversee allocations of inventory and transfers
- Oversee monitoring of stock levels to avoid overstocking or stock-outs and ensure timely replenishment.
- Support wholesale accounts from a planning perspective with the assistance of planning analyst.
Buying and Merchandise Planning Support
- Partner with the Merchandising and Product Development team to align demand planning efforts with seasonal trends, product launches, and merchandising initiatives.
- Collaborate with Finance and Merchandising/Product Development Teams to set and manage sales, inventory, and margin goals for seasonal collections.
- Analyze sales and inventory data to inform buying decisions, ensuring the right product mix to meet customer demand.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure that product assortments are aligned with ad/campaign objectives
- Act as the planning lead in cross-departmental meetings, ensuring alignment between sales, marketing, product development, and finance teams.
- Provide insights to support product launches, promotional campaigns, and end-of-life product strategies.
Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Inventory Manager and Planning Analyst, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Set performance goals, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to ensure team success.
- Identify skill gaps and provide training opportunities to develop team expertise.
What you bring to the table:
- Proven experience in planning, forecasting, and inventory management, ideally within the jewelry or fashion industry.
- Self-starter who is able to manage and coordinate projects and initiatives from start to finish
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in planning and inventory management systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus.
- Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a strong business and financial acumen.
