The Opportunity
Are you a collaborative Senior Reservoir Engineer with experience in unconventional North American resource plays? Vermilion Energy has an exciting #opportunity to join the Canadian Business Unit, as a Sr. Reservoir Engineer in our Calgary head office. If you are a strong critical thinker with Montney experience, we want to hear from you!
You will be an integral part of the Mica team supporting Vermilion’s Montney assets in NE BC / NW AB. You will be responsible for reservoir characterization, depletion strategy and design, type well development and enhancement, and technical justification for development activity. The role will also support developing and delivering the company’s capital and operating plans and continual optimization of the Montney assets. As part of a multi-disciplinary team you will also be responsible for identifying growth opportunities by supporting the team’s evaluation of crown land sales, farm-ins, and acquisition and divestiture activities.
What you will do
- Conduct reservoir simulation studies to analyze reservoir performance and predict production behavior for the Montney formation
- Develop and maintain regional geomodel with support from the multidisciplinary team
- Generate production forecasts, decline curve analysis, and reservoir surveillance plans to optimize production and enhance ultimate recovery
- Develop and execute the company’s short and long term development plans
- Support the asset team in optimizing completion design and depletion plans to enhance economics
- Collaborate with Engineers and Geoscience to coordinate well placements as it relates to spacing requirements, surface considerations, drilling limitations and pool management
- Maintain and improve drilling inventory, with particular focus on depletion, well spacing, and optimization of completion designs
- Identify opportunities to expand upon existing understanding of reservoir through technical fluid / reservoir studies and testing
- Develop new exploitation opportunities and reservoir depletion strategies on existing and prospective assets
- Monitor industry and competitor activity and identify opportunities for new technology application, consolidation, farm-ins, and land acquisition
- Provide technical support for all evaluations of crown land sales, farm-ins, and acquisition and divestiture activities
- Prepare and deliver presentations to executive management team on technical aspects of development opportunities
What you will bring
- Senior level engineering experience with 8-10 years direct reservoir engineering experience with strong technical reservoir engineering skills
- University Degree in Engineering or Petroleum Engineering Diploma; Professional APEGA Member
- Proficiency in numerical modeling, RTA / PTA, history matching,
and frac modeling
- Experience in Unconventional North American resource plays, with a strong preference for Montney experience
- Strong proficiency in reservoir performance analysis, well testing, material balance, and decline curve analysis
- Proven ability to identify technical opportunities and successfully implement value added projects
- Possess the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and excellent communication skills
- Adaptable to change and able to manage multiple priorities
- Detailed understanding of geologic concepts in relation to Exploitation & Reservoir Engineering
- Experience with industry-standard software packages, such as Petrel
- Software experience in Harmony, Geoscout, Mosaic, Spotfire and Data Analytics is considered an asset
