SUPERVISOR CUSTODIAL SERVICES Temporary Assignment
Facilities Department Effective Immediately until the return of the incumbent.
37.5 hours per week Afternoon Shift
Salary starts at $31.24/hr at step 1, plus 16% in lieu of benefits.

Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Facilities/Designate, the Supervisor has overall responsibility for custodial operations district wide, including direct/indirect supervision of all permanent, temporary, and casual custodians. This position combines supervisory duties with working duties, and the time will be allocated accordingly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assumes normal supervisory responsibilities over all custodial staff district wide, including supporting the organization staffing.
- On an ongoing basis, reviews, alters/adjusts, and approves annual/daily cleaning and non-instructional cleanup schedules and workloads.
- In consultation with the Manager, establishes annual leave schedules and approves/denies requests; reviews and approves timesheets and follows up on irregular timesheets.
- Reviews and approves all routine performance reviews and identifies concerns; issues verbal reprimands and recommends written responses.
- This position will have assigned custodial cleaning duties.
- Identifies training requirements,
recommends and/or develops individual training and district-wide workshops.
- Ensures that all custodial staff are trained in safety work practices and organizes all required training sessions for custodians.
- Provides technical guidance and advice.
- Performs periodic inspections to confirm adherence to quality and quantity standards.
- Identifies requirements, develops and recommends new work procedures for the full spectrum of custodial duties including injury prevention, disease transmission, productivity improvements, equipment and chemical suitability.
- Manages and maintains the custodial handbook content to ensure that the information is current and specific to each building.
- Receives site work/supply requisitions, approves or holds requisitions pending further verification.
- Monitors custodial supplies and equipment inventories/maintenance requirements; sources products/price/suitability and availability; verifies goods received; recommends major equipment purchases.
- Prepares updates for manuals, ensures their distribution (including WHMIS), and maintains master copies.
- Liaisons with principals/staff to discuss concerns regarding custodial work quality or significant adjustments to site operational requirements.
- Responds to district-wide operational emergency situations (including after-hours).
- Performs a variety of administrative functions in support of the Manager/Designate of Facilities' requirements.
- Performs monthly playground equipment inspection (e.g., identify equipment that needs repair/replacement, create work order, order parts replacement).
- Performs other comparable duties as assigned which are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description(s).
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 10 Building Service Worker Certificate.
- Boiler Operators Certificate.
- Building Service Management Course or equivalent.
- Fire Safety Course.
- Working Knowledge of applicable Provincial Health and WCB regulations, Custodial Handbook, Board Policies, WVMEA collective agreement, and WHMIS.
- Valid BC Drivers License.
- Previous experience in the maintenance of commercial or school buildings, preferably in a school district.
- Demonstrated supervisory ability.
- Self-starter with ability to organize daily tasks and work independently and as a member of a team.
- Able to use basic office equipment including email, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and use judgement in the resolution of problems.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision, and deal effectively with constant interruptions.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties (including climbing ladders and scaffolds).
- Working knowledge of applicable District software OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Graduation.
- Knowledge of school district operations.
- Canadian Playground Inspector Certification Program.
