Intermediate QA Automation Engineer with Java/Selenium experience to support the digital team with one of our major banking clients- 36727
Location Address: Hybrid - Toronto - Need to work from office twice a month (days flexible)
1 position for CIS - ASAP to 05/13/2025 - approx. 2 months
2 positions for Project Zero are approx. 5 months to July 15th
Extension: Highly Likely
Schedule Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, 37.5 hrs per week
Story Behind the Need
- Business group: Client Engineering - Commerce Engineering - supports content delivery platforms and services; works on public site (Scotiabank.com), product onboarding; team manages portfolio for 10 applications
- Projects:
- 1 position for Customer Information System onboarding project until May- testing capabilities and automating for CIS project - short term with strong possibility of extension
- 2 positions for Project Zero until mid July - SBH - small business hub onboarding - automation and manual testing
Typical Day in Role:
- Write moderate to complex code/ scripts to test systems.
- Design, develop and maintain a modular, extensible, and reusable test automation framework to enable continuous testing in an agile environment.
- Work closely with Team Lead, Software Testing, providing team and project status updates, escalating issues as needed (e.g., resourcing, training, etc.)
- Develop coding standards and testing approaches, enhance existing testing framework, and research/ implement new testing methodologies to best complement tech stack/ assets for the team.
- Work closely with Product Owner/ BSA to determine near-term and future plans for the team.
- Collaborate with Delivery Lead to plan milestones, successfully execute software delivery, and escalate issues as needed
Must Have Skills:
- 5+ years of demonstrated hands-on and in-depth Test Automation experience - testing on both web and mobile applications
- 5+ years of Test Automation experience with Java or JavaScript
- 5+ years of Test Automation experience with frameworks, and utilities (e.g. Selenium WebDriver or WebDriverIO)
- 2+ years’ recent experience with API testing using Postman
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Experience within FI
Best vs Average: Automation experience and Java experience are central to this role and will be prioritized when shortlisting. Able to work within a team well. FI/banking experience not as important as long as they are strong with Java automation technical skills and have good soft skills.
Degrees or certifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field preferred
Interview Structure and Format:
- Pre interview: Codility testing
- 1st round: 1 hr Technical Interview with HM and Automation Specialist
format of the first round of interview: Total time: 1 hour
40 minutes technical and live coding - 2 coding questions
20 minutes of manual testing - verbal question
- 2nd round: 45 minutes interview with Director (behavioral)
