ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Program Manager, OMM Process Optimization & Analytics, is responsible for conducting on-site investigations and recommendations to optimize advanced and conventional water treatment processes including numerical and computerized modelling for water age or detention factors, disinfection by-product and corrosion control for water; conducting on-site diagnostic and treatability analysis including bench scale,
pilot and full scale levels; conduct research in partnership on advanced water treatment methodologies; provide recommendations for the planning, design and commissioning of drinking water systems to meet regulatory requirements including Drinking Water Quality Management System (DMQMS) and ISO standards; conduct on-site and classroom training on new advance treatment methodologies and technologies.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Reviews benchmarking data and tracks plant and system operational parameters to trouble shoot and monitor treatment systems performance.
- Provides advice and recommendations to implement new equipment, need procedures or process modifications as requested by management.
- Conducts bench scale, pilot scale and full scale testing of various optimization strategies.
- Ensures quality assurance activities to monitor program effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts with the Branch.
- Assists in the development and management of standard operating procedures, operations manuals, methods and policies related to ISO and DWQMS requirements.
- Monitors and ensures appropriate use of asset management standards for infrastructure.
- Develops and supports research and innovation partnership with academic and research agencies.
- Oversees engineering and asset management consultants and manages feasibility/functional studies and projects for water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Co-ordinates, leads and provides guidance on project teams.
- Liaises with and proactively develops relationships with Operators, internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, to facilitate the delivery of services and resolve environmental issues.
- Liaises with MOECC and regulatory agencies regarding compliance and reporting requirements.
- Coordinates trails of new technology for use in water and wastewater facilities.
- Participates on external technical or professional committees.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience (inclusive of E.I.T. experience) in the approvals, design, construction and operating processes of municipal water and wastewater collection, distribution and treatment systems, including project management experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of municipal water, wastewater treatment,
collection and distribution system management and operations techniques, as well as complex hydraulic systems including pumping, piping, valving, etc.
- Understanding of budgeting process, strategic planning, program development and implementation techniques.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
