Reporting to the Director Adult Programs, the Programs Supervisor (Individual Conditioning) provides direct leadership to a team of staff and volunteers who must set up new members immediately into programs that are focused on the achievement of their personal health and wellness goals. A strong focus on Personal Training with smarts goals assigned will be a major part of the role. Using a CRM system,
the Supervisor and department staff team finds and implements new and innovative ways to proactively monitor and act on member usage, facilitates personal goal achievement, regularly connects and communicates with all members to achieve their retention and engage in a relationship with them that is “member insightful”. Implementing our Member Insight Strategy and using our Membership Involvement Model, the Programs Supervisor identifies and executes initiatives to increase Membership on Roll, Retention, Satisfaction, and Philanthropic contributions in the membership areas.
The Supervisor ensures that all members of this leading edge team are proactive in their ability to stay abreast of leading trends in health, fitness and conditioning and demonstrate exceptional relationship building skills. The recruitment, development, certification,
retention and deployment of a team of volunteers to work in this area are also a major focus of this department.
In this role, you will:
- Coaches and develops staff to ensure exceptional service experience in various types of Personal Training; ensures staff are following best practices and performing required administration tasks for tracking sessions and maintaining client information.
- Responsible for achieving monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue objectives set forth by department sales goals
- Recruits, hires, onboards and trains new staff for the IC/PT department, following all practices and protocols as outlined by Human Resources and Health & Fitness.
- Responsible for scheduling and ensuring appropriate staffing is available to meet Personal Training targets.
- Manages the Personal Training program utilizing VirtuaGym software; Ensures accuracy of information entered in VirtuaGym, including client bookings, credits and notes.
- Conducts Personal Training consultations from online requests and in-person opportunities; is knowledgeable about Personal Training programs and the Personal Training team in order to facilitate the best match between Trainer and client
- Proactively follows up with Personal Training clients and members to encourage continued participation in YMCA programs and services.
- Assists in identifying opportunities to leverage the YMCA’s training expertise externally to increase sales
- Conducts Personal Training audit to ensure staff qualifications are up to date and all Personal Trainers are delivering high quality service
- Responsible for coaching and developing a team of staff and volunteers to provide superior service and build relationships with members in the conditioning room and surrounding areas
- Involved in the direct delivery of Group Fitness classes, Personal Training sessions, and new member orientations, and ensures exceptional service experience for members; follows up to assist members to achieve their personal fitness goals
- Conducts regular formal and informal performance reviews for staff, assisting staff in creating development plans; manages performance issues as required
- Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates programs and processes within the Association’s Membership Services Plan impacting the experience of members in the conditioning room and surrounding areas
- Builds relationship with members and seeks opportunities to share the YMCA story and educates members and guests on the YMCA as a Charity
- Assists in developing and managing departmental budgets and achieves all performance indicators and standards including those related to MOR, retention and YMCA Priority Sam standards
- Provides leadership and support as a member of the Centre senior staff team. Acts as an effective Acting General Manager as required
- Participates in task groups, special assignments and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision and strategic initiatives including the Core Service Functional Group
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
- Diploma or Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field preferred.
- Standard First Aid, CPR required.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role in group fitness programs; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers,
acknowledge and appreciate contributions.
- Experience in personal training sales an asset
- Previous experience in development and implementation of new programs an asset.
- YMCA Personal Trainer Certification or equivalent (i.e. CPTN, ACE, etc.) preferred; Certified Fitness Consultant (CFC) an asset; Group Fitness Certification preferred; Certification in nutrition an asset.
- Proficiency with computer software including Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written communication skills
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including days, evenings and weekends;
