Thank you for your interest in the Chief of Social Work and Attendance Services position with the York Region District School Board. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for the management and facilitation of Social work and Attendance Services within the Board in accordance with Board policies and procedures, ethical standards and regulatory practices.

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To manage, develop and provide leadership for the day to day operations of Social Work and Attendance Services including the management of staff, consultation and intervention services, and facilitation of ethical and responsible practices related to all aspects of social work practice.
- To manage all aspects of Social Work and Attendance Services,
including hiring, maintaining staffing assignments, performance evaluation, grievance handling and service delivery tracking.
- To provide organizational support, planning and coordination of services to Student Services staff and Board committees and initiatives, as well as, support collaboration with staff members working in various areas of special education.
- To consult and support the management of student attendance, as well as, facilitate the court process related to truancy charges.
- To manage Social Work and Attendance Services budget and resources.
- To organize and lead meetings and consultations with Social Work and Attendance Services staff.
- To facilitate and guide the delivery of support to address traumatic events and crisis in schools.
- To co-manage the delivery of the Board’s Threat Assessment and Intervention activities.
- To direct services, such as social work consultation, crisis response, and other clinical support, to school locations.
- To support and represent the Board in the community and provincially on various organizations and committees such as, The Ontario Association Board Chief Social Workers, CAST (Child Abuse Systems Team), JPSA (Joint Protocol for Student Achievement), YRDSB/York CAS Joint Committee, CWECT, community mental health meetings, etc.
- To attend professional development and research activities including attendance at conferences and symposiums to keep abreast of theory and practices of school social work.
- To supervise and provide guidance to School Social Workers, including providing coordinating and leading monthly staff meetings.
- To manage, update and maintain Home Schooling and Home Instruction procedures,
including providing consultations and support to find teachers.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree in social work or equivalent, as approved by the board is required.
- Membership in the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and in good standing is required.
- Minimum 7 years related, progressive and supervisory experience in a school social work role or other mental health setting is required.
- Strong knowledge of child and adolescent mental health related issues is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, on behalf of the Board and District, with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.
- Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, management,
supervisory and computer skills is required.
- Must have regular access to transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:
LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.
