About The Role:
Reporting to our Group Manager of Responsible Sourcing and Compliance, the Food Safety and Compliance Specialist ensures Giant Tiger's product assortment and suppliers meet our social compliance, product quality and safety, food quality and safety and sustainability compliance programs.
Workplace Arrangements:
This role will follow a hybrid remote/onsite schedule.
Applicants for this role can expect to work on-site from our Ottawa Head Office, on Walkley Road 2 days a week.

What You'll be Doing:
- Support the development and implementation of Giant Tiger's food safety program;
- Complete investigations and resolutions of food safety issues and complaints with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Support the development and implementation of Giant Tiger's recall process;
- Coordinate food safety data-sharing between Giant Tiger & third party service providers;
- Act as the food safety subject matter expert and provide training and knowledge sharing sessions with key stakeholders;
What You'll Bring:
- A university or college degree in food science, microbiology,
or a related field;
- 3-5 years of previous experience in a food safety role at a retail or qualified manufacturing facility, particularly in onboarding suppliers, vendors, and manufacturing facilities to food safety programs;
- Knowledge of HACCP, GFSI, BRC schemes and food/consumer packaged goods regulations;
- Comprehension of the Canadian Food and Drug Act, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and other applicable regulations;
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team;
- Proven ability to act as a collaborative problem solver;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience interpreting regulations, writing policies, and sharing knowledge with others;
