The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canadas window on parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canadas only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape.
The Role
Based in Ottawa just steps from Parliament Hill, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to produce insightful public affairs content for CPACs television and multimedia audiences. The successful candidate will form an integral part of our comprehensive daily coverage of Canadian politics,
including federal and provincial election campaigns, as well as political conventions and major policy events.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Produce fact-checked dynamic and compelling content suitable for all platforms for CPACs daily shows;
- Write stories and produce content for various media platforms, including digital and social media;
- Establish, maintain and leverage a network of contacts;
- Work on-air and on digital content as reporter and narrator;
- Contribute to story ideas and pitch story ideas to the editorial team;
- Produce thirty to sixty-minute current affairs long form interviews and documentaries;
- Prepare and write scripts
- Chase political office holders and expert guests and analysts;
- Coordinate logistics for interviews
- Conduct interviews;
- Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required):
- Undergraduate Degree in Journalism or Media Arts, or the equivalent combination of education and media experience;
- Five years professional experience in the news industry, including radio & television broadcasting;
- Understand and maintain current knowledge of the Canadian Political system, and of current and emerging issues and trends;
- Understand the legislative and regulatory framework and organizations within the Canadian Broadcast System;
- Excellent news judgment, critical thinking and synthesizing skills;
- Strong command of writing, interview and production techniques for TV and digital media; strong familiarity with various social media platforms;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
- Strong project management skills and experience;
- Ability to work flexible, irregular hours and overtime as required;
