Marketing and Communications Manager

Who We Are:
Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.
Job Overview:
The Marketing and Communications Manager role involves strategic leadership in marketing, communications, and public relations for Heritage Park, focusing on developing and executing comprehensive marketing strategies that align with the organization's vision. Responsibilities include assisting with budgets, creating engaging content across various platforms, overseeing media relations, and fostering team development. The position also emphasizes organizational excellence, promoting a positive workplace culture while ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- - Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to execute comprehensive marketing strategies and key performance indicators that drive organizational change and align with the company’s vision, mission, and values
- Evaluate emerging trends and impacts to business operations and adjust marketing strategies accordingly
- Assist in managing the communications and marketing budget, ensuring cost-effective spending and tracking ROI for campaigns
Marketing
- - Develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies to promote the Park’s events, exhibitions, and programs, driving visitor attendance and engagement
- Plan and execute omnichannel marketing campaigns, including digital, social media, print, and traditional advertising, ensuring consistency in messaging and brand identity
- Oversee the creation of compelling content for a variety of platforms, including social media, website,
email newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials
- Develop and implement social media strategies to increase brand visibility, grow audience engagement, and drive traffic to the organization's digital platforms
- Collaborate with internal teams to promote special events, programs, and community outreach initiatives, ensuring effective communication with the public and key stakeholders
- Monitor and respond to audience comments, messages, and inquiries on social media platforms in a timely and engaging manner
- Monitor and analyze campaign performance using metrics and analytics, providing actionable insights and recommendations to optimize future strategies
Communications
- - Develop and implement strategic communication plans that align with organizational goals and enhance brand visibility
- Create compelling content for various platforms, including website, social media channels, and newsletters
- Supervise the production of annual reports, multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, and blogs, to engage target audiences effectively, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels
- Guides direct reports in creating impactful content and digital outreach
- Collaborates across departments to support communication initiatives and publications (e.g., Interpretation, Finance, Fund Development, People & Culture, Business Development)
- Manages and maintains Park's 30–90-day content calendar
- Works with Director of Marketing and Communications and the senior leadership team to strengthen employee engagement activities
Public and Media Relations
- - Manage media relations, including responding to inquiries,
drafting press releases, and coordinating interviews with organizational spokespeople
- Act as the primary media spokesperson, representing us at media conferences and events
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, bloggers, and influencers to increase media coverage and amplify messaging
- Plan and execute media events, press conferences, and tours to promote organizational initiatives and milestones
- Monitor media coverage, prepare reports on impressions and sentiment, and track results of tourism media familiarization tours
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop key messages and talking points for media engagements
- Work closely with Tourism Calgary and Travel Alberta to leverage media opportunities
- Serve as a key spokesperson during crises, ensuring timely and effective communication to stakeholders
- Develop crisis communication plans and protocols to manage and mitigate reputational risks
People Leadership
- - Lead by example by providing day-to-day support to direct reports to enhance expertise and professional growth
- Foster a collaborative working environment by communicating clearly, delegating responsibilities, and recognizing team contributions
- Mentor and support Digital Engagement Specialist, Marketing and Content Specialist, and Social Media Coordinator in their professional development, offering guidance and opportunities for growth within the organization
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide feedback to ensure that direct reports are meeting performance expectations and achieving objectives
- Assess areas for development and provide open and respectful feedback in a timely fashion
- Work with direct reports to create annual SMART goals and track and ensure regular communication for on-time goal delivery and completion
- Analyze current processes and procedures and provide recommendations for process improvements, internal procedure changes and best practice applications to the Director of Marketing and Communications

- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- - Bachelor's degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field is required
- Minimum five (5) years’ prior experience in marketing/communications and public relations/media relations, preferably in a managerial role
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in a formal management marketing role including budget and people management (recruitment, training, coaching and performance management)
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in creation and execution of content strategies for digital and traditional channels
- Proven track record of gathering, analyzing, and interpreting market data to inform business decisions
- Demonstrated success in media placements and PR campaigns
- Strong relationships with media contacts across various platforms (print, broadcast, online, digital)
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience in crafting press releases, speeches, and other PR materials
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Strategic thinker with analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Experience in crisis communications and reputation management is an asset
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools, graphic design tools (Adobe, Canva etc.) and social media platforms
- Proficiency in marketing analysis including Google Analytics
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
