Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. What will I be doing?

- Lead the design and delivery of data pipelines, aligning them with business requirements through detailed analysis of business processes and preparing specifications that support business or functional needs.
- Develop, maintain, and automate end-to-end ETL/ELT workflows for structured and unstructured data processing, utilizing Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and other Azure technologies.
- Ensure continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) by automating reliable data pipelines and adhering to best practices for development tools, code sharing, and data architecture.
- Support and maintain data pipelines, including providing rotational on-call production support and ensuring pre-implementation reviews for consistency with departmental guidelines and industry standards.
- Collaborate with user departments, stakeholders,



and data teams to gather business requirements, provide system support, and make recommendations for changes to data pipelines, resolving issues as they arise.

Customer/Stakeholder

- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, data owners, and data stewards, particularly within Enterprise Systems Engineering and Data teams, while also becoming a subject matter expert on rail operations data.
- Communicate data designs clearly to internal customers and support their data-related questions, while managing and collaborating with partners and stakeholders across all levels of the organization on related initiatives.

Operational Excellence

- Drive the adoption of best practices in data pipeline development through the support of policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with security standards and safeguarding sensitive data,



while contributing to business system and process improvements.
- Implement data quality checks and monitoring, ensure data governance compliance, and continuously identify opportunities to enhance platform performance, scalability, and capabilities.
- Prepare necessary documentation for lifecycle delivery and handover to users and operations, while sharing knowledge and promoting continuous learning across technical and non-technical teams.

Financial Stewardship

- Coach and mentor internal customers to ensure data operational costs are controlled and conduct regular reviews of operational costs with Data Platform teams to address concerns quickly.

People Leadership

- Organize and prioritize development tasks,



coordinating execution with other team members while coaching and mentoring Data Engineers and internal clients on proven data practices.
- Provide learning sessions to empower teams with the knowledge on effectively using operational data.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

- Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in data engineering with Azure and Databricks
- Demonstrated experience working with relational databases, preferably SQL Server
- Preferred tools: Git, JIRA
- Skills: Azure, Databricks, SQL, Python
- Azure certifications beneficial: Data Engineer Associate, Solutions Architect
