The National Judicial Institute (NJI) is an independent, bilingual, not‐for‐profit organization, based in Ottawa and Montreal, with a mandate to provide continuing education to members of the judiciary across Canada. An acknowledged world leader in the design and delivery of judicial education, NJI also shares its judicial training expertise abroad. In its international work, NJI seeks to strengthen the rule of law through judicial education and judicial reform.

Since its inception in 1988, the NJI has offered in-person programs and a wide range of digital resources designed to foster judicial excellence. As part of its curriculum, the NJI delivers over 70 in-person judicial education programs each year.



The NJI’s digital resources include self-study courses, Electronic Bench Books, podcasts, videos, judge-facing tools, and more. Alone or in partnership with courts and other organizations, the NJI is involved in the delivery of the majority of education taken by judges in Canada.

The NJI is looking to fill the permanent position of Lead Project Officer, International Education. This position is based in Ottawa and requires fluent bilingualism in French and English.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Project Officer, International Education (LPO, IE), assists with the development, implementation, and logistics of international education-related programs and initiatives within the IE department of the NJI. This includes both research and development of international programs, program materials, and program support relating to administration, coordinating suppliers, interpretation, and travel. They provide administrative support to the Director, IE. The LPO also acts as on-site support to visiting delegations.

In addition to these responsibilities,



the LPO tracks deadlines, monitors results, provides financial and analysis support within a department budget, and works on corporate matters. The LPO may be called upon to report to both internal and external stakeholders on a project.

Specifically, responsibilities include:

Program Design

1. Design program agendas and protocols for delegations and other projects;
2. Correspond with subject matter experts, for example, judges, academics, and NJI staff on the production of their program materials; and
3. Assist in developing non-legal program materials, including PowerPoints, program activities, etc., as requested.

Program Logistics and Support

1. Propose event venues and conference layouts;
2. Work with logistical suppliers (hotels, catering, audio-visual, interpretation, etc.);
3.



Coordinate the signing of contracts for IE partners and Canadian judges;
4. Coordinate visa requirements and send invitation letters;
5. Assist with travel bookings;
6. Prepare briefing binders and logistics binders; and
7. Provide executives with remote or local support while traveling, including meeting set-up and updating materials.

Project Management

1. Track timelines and deliverables and update project team members and clients; and
2. Anticipate potential delays and propose alternative solutions.

Project Reporting

1. Conduct surveys on past and future programs;
2. Complete and submit results-based management reports and monitoring reports, as needed;
3. Complete and submit narrative reports required for international work, including, for example, revisions to the logic model,



performance measurement frameworks, project implementation plans, annual and mid-term reports; and
4. Present progress reports to stakeholders, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

1. Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, international affairs, law, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education);
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in project coordination;
3. Fluently bilingual in French and English (R/W/O);
4. Ability to travel internationally and nationally for work;
5. Proficiency with Office 365; and
6. Proficiency in Project Management Software, such as Asana.

Desirable

1. Experience working Internationally or on International projects;
2. A good working knowledge of another program language (Vietnamese, Chinese, Ukrainian,



Spanish, etc.); and
3. Experience with Global Affairs Results-Based Management and reporting, including output and outcome worksheets, PMFs, and narrative reports.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is to be determined at the time of hiring, based on the successful candidate’s experience and profile, within represented salary band 5: $60,700 - $75,875 annually.
