The ideal candidate will:
Have experience developing custom decarbonization / electrification solutions for the industrial, institutional and commercial sectors. The ideal candidate will know about building electrical infrastructure and integrating onsite generation via generators and renewable energy generation. You also have the ability to design the entire electrical system from end to end based on site audits and close collaboration with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and contractors. You will have experience performing energy savings calculations and be able to actively support the on-site coordination, supervision, and successful implementation and commissioning of electrical infrastructure and generation systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead project development activities for electrification projects from conception through to construction and commissioning, proactively identifying and resolving project barriers.
· Coordinate and support all aspects of project development for electrification projects, including connection impact assessment applications, permits and approvals, project communications, engineering, and design.
· Create implementation strategies, including the preparation of annual development budgets for electrification projects at various locations in Canada. Typical electrification projects include:
o Addition of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) technologies such as solar power,
o Energy storage,
o EV charging infrastructure,
o Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems and reciprocation engines
o Power distribution modification designs for equipment upgrades
o Power system short circuit studies, including power factor analysis, arc flash analysis, calculations, and harmonic studies
o Low Voltage power system distribution, generation, and motor control system design
o High Voltage and Medium Voltage substation, switchgear, and power distribution design
· Support the project manager in identifying key risks by subject matter area.
· Act as a point of contact for all change orders or design modifications and liaise with designers and engineers to ensure all changes meet project needs and goals.
· Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager in resolving technical challenges on-site using your expertise.
· QA/QC: Develop creative approaches to achieve project energy and cost goals, improve budgets and timelines, and mitigate project risks.
· Serve as the subject matter expert for power distribution and generation disciplines, utilizing internal and external resources to drive projects forward.
· Identify and assess potential renewable energy sites using various siting tools such as Helioscope.
· Investigate interconnection modifications to existing design concepts applicable to each site.
· Collaborate closely with switchgear manufacturers and other OEMs to develop innovative and scalable designs and costing models for voltage levels of 25kV, 13.8kV, 4160V, 600V, and 208V, depending on site and system size.
· Identify electrical components for electrification projects and work closely with procurement to estimate costs and purchase required components.
· Provide substantial input into the solar, battery, and generator designs to optimize performance, reliability, and sustainability for each site.
· Direct engineering consultants in preparing detailed engineering and construction drawings and specifications, ensuring that the design intent and savings materialize.
· Build effective networks and working relationships with key stakeholders and clients, both current and future.
· Maintain a results-oriented approach with a focus on quality and customer service,
and demonstrate commercial acumen.
· Manage and prioritize multiple priorities to maintain client service throughout project delivery and achieve deadlines.
· Provide clear and timely reporting of project status to clients and direct managers, ensuring that critical project records and documentation are maintained at all times.
· Support the preparation of client estimates, quotes, and proposals, and assist with the preparation of RFPs as required.
· Perform other duties as assigned, including field/site visits and contract administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience
- P.Eng in electrical engineering or EIT eligible for P.Eng within 12 months
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Familiarity with the electrical engineering environment for the detailed design drawings, tender package specifications, feasibility studies, budget estimates, shop drawing reviews, commissioning, and condition assessments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD an asset;
- Exhibit strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong ability to optimise and prioritize conflicting demands in a busy environment in order to achieve deadlines and meet client deliverables
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail; and
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU NEED
· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or building systems-related field
· PMP certification from PMI is strongly preferred.
· CEM certification from AEE is strongly preferred.
· Fluent in spoken and written English
· Expertise in energy efficiency systems and knowledge of the energy market
· Previous or related experience engaging with multiple business/project stakeholders
· Valid driver’s license

Cooperate and support interdepartmental, interdivisional, intercompany goals, directives and initiatives endorsed by Blackstone as and when required.
